POTC Obsession

Block 9 is done!

Every block I hand stitch becomes "my favorite block."

I keep telling myself that I am going to "just finish this one block"
and then I will get back to the
stack of projects waiting by my machine.

Until the block is done and the bee starts buzzing in my ear ...

... that the honeycombs need fussy cutting ...

... and glue basting ...

and the next thing I know is that I have another layout decision to make ...

Layout A

or

Layout B

??????????????

This fabrics are sew cute.

I shall start sewing the center and the pairs while I decide.

Opinions always welcome ... :-)

My method for sewing Patchwork of the Crosses
blocks tutorial coming soon.

Updated: Sunday, April 30th:

In response to a question ...

I have completed nine main Patchwork of the Crosses blocks and two connecting units
since I started these blocks
 Here
You can see some of my previous attempts to start a POTC quilt in that post.

In March, a quilt blogging friend opened up this

30's POTC BOM Group

and I signed up.

I rarely do Block of the Month programs,
but the 30's reproduction fabrics really appealed to me.

I am really enjoying being in this group of very inspiring and supportive stitching friends where we share our progress and tips and tricks in a private Facebook group.
It is just the help I needed to learn and grow.

On Saturday, my hubby and I attended a nearby quilt guild show
we always enjoy and I found some more fabrics for my blocks ...

like this floral stripe from the Back Porch collection from Kaye England.

I took this one home and had to start fussy cutting and ...

I have another block layout to sew.

I love making these blocks!

Have a happy quilty weekend !

Every Day is a Slow Stitching Day

One More Block Done ...

... and one ready to sew!

... until ...

This lovely envelope of fabrics arrived!

Jan @ Sew and Sow Farm

put together "remake" kits for new member of the

30's POTC BOM group

and had some extras,
sew of course,
I wanted one.

I got (easily) distracted by the pretty new fabrics

... and laid out another block.

This is the one I have been working on
and it is almost done.

I have enjoyed that I can take this work outside on the sunny days.

It is now rainy and cold here again,
so no sitting outside and sewing today,
or tomorrow,
or the day after,
or the day after that maybe.

That is okay.

It is a good night to stay in and stitch.

OMG ~ April is Accomplished!

Block 5

This is my favorite block so far.
This one will be called the Easter Block in my quilt
as I took it with me and stiched as I visited
and it will remind me of the lovely weekend I had with my family

 Block 6

Block 4

Two Scrappy Connecting Units

which means

I have completed my

OMG!

I decided to make

 3 Main POTC blocks

and 2 connecting units.

I have actually completed four main blocks as

this one was in process when I posted my goal.

I am loving playing with the pieces to the

I have a small tin of ready to sew honeycombs
that I made from the BOM kit fabrics and
my stash fabrics that I have auditioned previously and saved.
These are waiting for the "right block."

The cute turtles called my name today and  I have two layouts in progress,
one I have started stitching, but I have not chosen the fabrics for the
outer honeycombs.  This is sew fun ... :)

Lots of beautiful inspiration in the links!

Enjoy!

Spring Has Sprung!

The crocus are in bloom!

It was in the 80's today and I took my slow stitching on my

30's POTC BOM project outside

This bright red robin came sown to visit with me while I stitched.

It was nice to get some sun and fresh air.

I see we have a lot of yard clean up to do from the winter storms.

Right now, though, I want to sit and sew.

This is the block I am working on now.

It's All About The Fabric

Yesterday I went to the

It is always one of my favorites.

I come away feeling awed by the creativity,

inspired by the creativity,

and humbled by the creativity.

I see many quilts beyond my limited capabilities as a quilter.

I am not discouraged by this.

I feel the strength of my own creative abilities
and look forward to a new personal challenge.

A new one came very quickly ... read on :)

Of course, there was the always spontaneous hand selected bag of goodies.

I done good ... it was a small bag ...

two Frixion Pens for marking and erasing,

one book,

one spool of Bottom Line Thread,
that has become my thread of choice for EPP,
(yes, I know it is polyester ... I am also using glue sticks ... works of me)
This was my only planned purchase ...

... and two yards of fabric
from a favorite vendor where the cutting line forms
behind the man with the cardboard sign on his back.
These are good people.

Yesterday though I came away with a fabric fumble.

Katniss was the first to sniff out something was amiss.

There are two yards of Kaffe Fassett Paperweight  folded together there ...

umm ...

... Surprise!

This is the fabric I thought I bought.

I handed the man two bolts of paperweight, one yellow and one algae green
and he stacked and cut and folded and handed them to me to tuck in my bag.
I said thank you and we paid and left the show as son #1 was waiting for us at home.

Hmmmm ... now at first I was bummed
and ready to stuff the brown batik away in the
bottom shelf cube of batiks in my stash which is, at the moment, fabric oblivion.

Then I had a good night's quilty sleep
and woke up with the thought that
I have been given a new personal quilty challenge!

I am calling this the Fabric Switch Challenge.

I have as yet no idea what I am going to make.

It will be fun!

Which brings me to the book.

One of the exhibits I was most looking forward to was

I always take photos of the quilt info, read this and
of course, I went to say "Hi!" ...

So, of course,  coming away with a book was in my case inevitable.

I love books and have been planning to purchase this one for sometime.

"15 minutes of play" could be my mantra.

... or maybe ...

"I am one with the fabric and the fabric is one with me."

A signed copy is a treasure.

I love Victoria Findlay Woolf's quilts, designs and ...

fabric!

This is what I have had in my stash a while
and I am waiting for them to call me to project.

This orange floral is the most glorious fabric I have ever met.

In the upper right corner you will spy the paw.

It is sunny and nice and the windows on the south side are open and

Katniss is saying, "Meowwwt!"

Katniss only goes out on a leash so she is following her humans around and staring.

Time to get some fresh air ...

but first ... time to link up with the fabulous fabric

15 Minutes of Scrap Play Today!

It was a bright, fun and busy day ... all in a good way ... today.

It is almost midnight here but I was missing my sewing machine
and so I grabbed some multi-colored scraps and sewed!

I made another

Large Thread Cone Block

and found I needed to update the

Cutting Instructions:

Threads:
3/4" to 1 and  1/2"  assorted multicolored strips

Background:
Two 2" by 5 and 1/2" strips white
Two 1 and 1/4" squares
Two 1"  by  3 and 1/2" strips white
Two 1" by 2" strips white

Cone:
One  4 and 1/2" by 1" strips gray
One 1 and 1/2" by 1"  strips gray

This block will now be referred to as LGTCB on my blog
and I will be making many of them ...
Just For Fun!

Because I read somewhere that

is a good thing.

More on this tomorrow.

1 POTC cross block and 2 connecting blocks done!

Making progress for my

I stayed on task yesterday to get the connecting blocks done ...

April BOM kits that arrived!

Now I can play with these pretties ...
