There is a three foot drift against my back door and it will not open.
We have about 2 feet now and some snow is still falling and blowing around. The forecast is for another few inches.
For those of you who have never experienced deep snow fall, I can only try to explain the hush, the whisper, the eerie ...
"...And, when the second morning
shone,
We looked upon a world
unknown,
On nothing we could call our
own... "
Read Whittier's "Snowbound"
Whittier's homestead stills stands and is a historical site open to the public in Haverhill, MA, between here and the coast, and is snowbound again today. Or read Robert Frost. Although are lights flickered on and off last night several times due to wind gusts, we have not lost power. There are 400,000 outages reported in my state, most of them closer to the coast.
Our street is not plowed. There is a travel ban in effect in my state while the plows and emergency and power crews try to do their work.
One of our sons who lives in western MA took a personal day off from work in anticipation of the storm and came home on Thursday night so he is he is out there with a shovel clearing an emergency path to the street.
It is silent in the city today.
A good day to stay in and handsew the binding on my quilt.
Have a happy quilty day!

WOWOW! Now that is some snow!!! May you have a few good warm days! ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteNot fun!! We are getting it here too...in New Brunswick, Canada. still snowing; not heavily, but blowing and drifting badly...ours drifts mainly across the middle of the driveway and the backyard; which is fine....lol
ReplyDeleteWe'll deal with the driveway tomorrow..tractor will take care of that quite quickly...it is a good day for sewing
I don't know exactly where in New England you are, but that's a lot of snow. I'mm in Indiana, and we have nothing here. In fact, I was just out in a light sweatshirt jacket. Hope your power stays on and that you are warm.
ReplyDeleteI definitely feel for you! It's been quite the year so far and I doubt that it's over. That silence is deafening isn't it? It's the part of winter I just love. Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad all is well with you ms Pat! How sweet of your son to take a day off to be with you and help out :)
ReplyDeleteWowee, you did get clobbered! We got about 10" of snow. That was enough for me! lol
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear your son came home to help shovel you out.
Have fun sewing.
Wow, that's much snow! Excellent day to stay inside and sew, I would say :) it was just a little cold (comparatively! I think 50 degrees is verrrry cold haha) here today and rainy so I did the same. I finished my hounds tooth top finally! I really, really wanted to.start quilting it... but I had no batting or backing. Oops!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your power hasn't gone out! Hope it stays on :)
I hope you don't end up losing power so you are able to stay snug and warm.
ReplyDeleteCath @ Bits 'n Bobs
oh, I am envious of all that snow, but I hope everyone stays safe and warm!
ReplyDeleteWhat a good son!! You raised him well. :)
ReplyDeleteI am originally from Massachusetts and am glad I'm not there! The only nice thing I can say about snow is that it's pretty when it's fresh. Sometimes, even breathtaking! Stay warm and safe! ~karen
ReplyDeleteGosh I hope the snow has subsided by now ..........so many of you had such deep drifts and falls over there.
ReplyDeleteThe Uk has had areas much the same but thnkfully, in East Yorkshire we have been spared the worst.
