My January Blocks are done!
I made 5 X blocks and 5 Sixteen Patch blocks and 10 border squares.
I sewed the border squares into rectangle units.
This is my plan for each month.
Here is the layout for my quilt ...
"Summer Crossroads" Quilt
I am making this quilt as part of this fun sew-along
@
I decided on this color scheme for my sew-along quilt
when I realized I would have a lot of Kona Summer Colors
jelly roll strips and charms left over from making my
I love these colors!
For the background yardage, I found a light Kona medium gray
which has been in my stash for a few years.
I will also be adding some other bright Kona solid scrap fabrics from my stash of scraps to have enough colored squares to make this quilt.

I drew the layout of my quilt on EQ6.
My finished quilt will measure 70" by 86" with the borders.
Block size 8.5 unfinished
For this quilt I will need
31 sixteen patch blocks
made with 2.5" squares
pieced in 4 row of 4 squares each
rows pressed alternately
32 X blocks
made with 4 background squares, 4.5"
sew and flip method using 2.5" squares for the corners
press units alternately to nest seams
64 border blocks
4.5" background square
1 corner 2.5" square sewn diagonally and press to corner.
Here are my first two blocks!
This makes many little scrap HSTs which is my leader and ender project for this quilt.
I have decided that I need to make 10 blocks per month for 6 months
and the remaining 4 blocks and the border blocks for the seventh month.
This will have me piecing and quilting my quilt by July.
Just in time for summer!
This quilt looks like the traditional ...
Arkansas Crossroads quilt block pattern,
but the constructions is different as it is made from two alternating blocks.
I made one block in the traditional manner and found I like the new method better!
For a tutorial from Make It Do for the traditional block click HERE
I will use this block on the back of my quilt for the label.
