I Like Thursday # 95 ~ Seize the Day

Good Morning!

My Mother's legacy to my garden, her lilacs, are blooming this week.

They always bloom for Mother's Day.

Their scent is so sweet.

Mother's Day was a pleasant day for a backyard get together with my boys

and a zoom session with my daughter's family.

As it is Thursday I am sharing the day with my blogging friends at

I Like Thursday Bloggers @ Not Afraid of Color

The image above is today's page from my

Seize the Day Desk Calendar by Robin Pickens

It has been a quiet week, mostly sunny, sometimes breezy,

with occasional showers.

When I visited my friend, Colette @ What about Rheema?,

she mentioned that she has wanted to make "Lilac Sugar."

I have never heard of this so I googled it and found:

Lilac Sugar @ Homespun Seasonal Living

My lilacs are in full bloom, so I seized the day and ran right out and snipped ...

... and snipped ...

and sugared.

One for me and one for a friend.

I will let you know how this tastes.

I have been sitting a lot recently and reading this book,

How to Be a Good Creature,

which was given to me by a friend.

It is a memoir by naturalist and adventurer Sy Montgomery.

I like memoirs.

When I have been inside in the evening, I have been re-watching the

BBC's Call the Midwife series lately.

This is based on the memoirs of Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth.

The books are on my "Books to Read" list.

Has anyone read them?

How factual is the television adaptation?

One of my favorite episodes is the one where the community choir sings

May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You

The actual choir is

The Maidstone Singers

I have been sewing.
One of my projects was to make a new canopy for our big yard swing
as the old one became ripped after heavy winds this spring.
This is a laminated cotton in denin blue by Riley Blake
that I had in my stash.

The new canopy is working well.

Now I need to recover the cushions.

As I did not have any outdoor fabric in my stash, I ordered some on sale from

Blue Stripe Outdoor Fabric from Fabric.com while is was recently on sale.

I hope to have this fabric by the weekend.

Sitting outside in the yard has been lovely.

This is last night's evening sky from my back porch.

May you have a Happy Thursday, my friends!

  1. A wonderful post. Yes do let us know about the Lilac sugar. My lilac tree is just budding and I would love to give that a try. How nice to have your Mother's legacy growing like that too. I loved Call the Midwife so much...why can't they make more shows like that. You are keeping busy and well which is wonderful.

  2. I’ve read the books and felt they did follow well, but the show also added a lot. The series lasts longer than Jennifer Worth’s experiences too. I enjoyed both.

  3. How to be a Good Creature looks interesting. Never heard of lilac sugar. The first seasons of Call the Midwife were best.

  5. Good morning Pat, So glad you are getting some lovely Spring. Your lilacs are beautiful. Ours bloomed and left so quickly this year, do to very little rain. I'm so glad you picked up Call the Midwife shows. I just love them. The first 3 seasons follow the books very well. But differently too. I enjoy reading the books as much as watching the shows. I'll be happy to let you borrow my book set, just let me know :)
