Spider Web Quilt-Along 2014 ~ Fabric Requirements & Tools

These are the fabrics I will be using to spin my web this year!

Spider Web Quilt Fabric Requirements

80 2.5 inch squares (two mini-charm packs, a charm pack, strips, FQs or

yardage ... or just use up scraps!)

1/2  - 2/3  yard of black (for web sashing and border and binding)

2 inch black circle for the center applique

30" square of backing fabric and batting

Fabric Selection Suggestions:

For your fabric squares, use a mix of lights to darks, small to medium prints.   I used three to four mini charms of each fabric but you could cut from 5-6 fat quarters or 2.5" strips if you wanted a less scrappy quilt.  Two mini charm packs or one charm pack would yield enough 2.5" squares for the top.

Last year I used very small scale prints ...

Tools

45 degree ruler (such as a Kaleido Ruler

(if you do not have one, you could try using a straight ruler

and the 45 degree lines on your cutting mat)

(if you do not have one, you could try using a small

 plate or other circle cutter)

I will be adding a few more "getting ready" posts in the coming months.

I hope you find these helpful.

I will be spinning this year's Spider Web for the

I received these lovely half-yards of fabric from the lovely

via the lovely other lady,
who cut and mailed.

Thank you, ladies!

A big Thank You to our Blog hop sponsor,

for these beautiful

fabrics!

I also bought a panel and some yardage from

which is a good online shop.

Good prices, good people, good service.

I do not think the owl print will be making it into this project,
but I loved the print so much it will be stashed for another project.
I will have extra fabric from the half yards, too, I think.

Maybe for this free project from

There is another free pattern for the Black Cat Crossing fabrics, too,
as well as many others.

  1. I would love to be a part of this. I'll think of it some days, and look at all other things I have to finish. Always tempted to do new things. I'll be back soon.
