The Changing of the Quilty Season

It is the weekend of the changing of the quilt seasons.

I am ticking away my fall (and some summer) quilts

and bringing out the Christmas and Winter quilts.

Katniss is helping.

Katniss says, "Why don't we just decorate the cat tree this year?"

It would save a lot of work rearranging the furniture.

For example, the cat tree usually goes out to a corner on our enclosed front porch.

Also, the cats treat the ornaments like their new cat toys anyway.

We will have a Christmas Tree this year.

More quilts and festive goodies coming soon!

In the meantime, Maestro and Nutmeg are cuddling with me and enjoying

our favorite summer nap quilt.

Nutmeg likes to hide under the quilt.

Maestro likes to snuggle up on top and keep an eye out.

May you enjoy the changing of the quilts and the leftovers

and have a safe and happy weekend.

I Like Thursday # 74 ~ Grateful, Thankful, Blessed

 Happy Thursday!

This has been another distracting week here ion the Scrapatch.

I have been sewing in bits and pieces on a few projects,

 and have the small

Golden Aster Charm Pack Quilt Started Here

This is a baby quilt and I found some stash fabrics that work well with this charm pack.

This is a baby girl quilt in requested colors.

One of the unexpected distractions has been the need to replace our water heater.

It has been cold showers in increasingly cold and windy weather.

Brrrrr!

I am so thankful to have hot water again.

I found this free printable @

Clean and Scentsible

There are many seasonal printables and pretty decorating ideas.

I love looking at the cozy decorating ideas on this site.

Do you like free printables?

I would love to learn about your favorite sites.

There are also Free Prinatbles @ Poppie Cotton

I love this one. It makes a nice folded gift card.

This little Gift Basket Printable is one of my favorites.

I have been stash spelunking for fabrics for the mystery quilt that I posted last week ...

These are an older fabric line,

Summer Blush from Down Grapevine Lane

There is a Free Printable Here inspired by this fabric line.

I am also considering this for my Grassy Creek Mystery.

I would have to find a good gray and more contrast fabrics,

I think, for the mystery.

These fabrics are

Spiced Garden by Mary Jane Carey @ Holly Hill Fabrics

This fabric is from Henry Gsass fabrics and there is a

Spiced Garden Free Pattern Here

I do like the soft look of these fabrics and I think they would make a good "meadow" quilt.

The addition of the blue adds the "creek" to the meadow, I think.

My ginger kitty is happy that it is ginger cookie season again.

For some reason Nutmeg, true to her name, loves small bits of treats with fall spices.

I like ginger spice cookies in the cold days of late fall ,,,

to warm me with a cup of tea or cocoa.

Happy Thursday to my friends

To Open ~ Or Not To Open?

To Open or Not To Open ?

That is the question.

Yesterday, I received this limited edition

Jolly Box from the Fat Quarter Shop,

my annual Christmas Gift to Me.

It is sold out for the year.

It arrived very early.

In the past I have been away or resisted and have not opened it until Christmas.

This year it is tempting me.

Will I open?

Did I open?

What do you think?

;)

I Like Thursday # 73 ~ Quilty Wisdom & Mystery

I like these Quilty Wisdoms

that I see daily at Quiltville on Instagram

This quote seems like a good mantra for the week.

Photo and Quote from Bonnie Hunter @ Quiltville

I am thinking this refers to her upcoming mystery quilt-along

as it is Mystery Season Here @ Quiltville.

"Jodi compiled her choices as:

Red = orange-red 20-12

Orange = orange 21-28

Gold = orange-yellow 23-29

Green = Chartreuse 2-28

Gray = ?? Dark shade/tone of light violets?"

I shall be patiently spending some time in Quiltville at the end of the month.

In the meantime I make be digging for fat quarters.

It has been a quiet and balmy week here in the scrapatch.

I have spent a lot of time outdoors trying to capture the falling leaves

and bag them and send them to the city mulching effort.

Click Here for Grassy Creek Intro Post and .pdf Requirements

My efforts and frequent breaks afforded me the chance to capture a photo

from across the yard of this elusive pair,  young Mr and Mrs Cardinal,

who are the first on my feeders in the gray early morning hours

and the last in the waning evening light.

I am hoping they will grace my feeders all winter and bring a nest full of babies in the spring.

The colors in this photo would make a good photo for a chip sample for the mystery quilt.

I have been well, but have been mostly staying away from social media,

except for the lovely, never ending virtual quilt show.

I like good smoked barbecue and finding good smoked barbecue in the northeast

calls for patience and sampling a lot of bad barbecue in search for good barbecue.

This week we found it @

Bobby & Jacks Memphis Barbecue

in nearby Tewksbury, Massachusetts.

We have found burnt ends ... those delectable, melt in your mouth barbecue goodness!

Smoked chicken good, beans good, southern style cornbread good, biscuits okay,

mac and cheese ... eh ... best left unsaid.

Looking forward to trying the ribs and brisket ... and more burnt ends!!

This week I also got my free starbucks cup

and a yummy Pumpkin Spice Iced Latte ... mmmmm!

Happy Thursday to my friends

May you have a safe and happy week!

I Like Thursday # 72 ~ Late Fall

Good Morning from my sunny living room!

Happy Thursday to the

I have tucked away my Halloween quilts and brought out my fall quilts.

This maple leaf one is old and shabby.

It is my first attempt at this block pattern and was made many years ago
when Mr Scrapatch was working as a consultant in Vermont and
we rented a motel room with a tiny kitchenette during the week and went home
every weekend.  Our children were all young adults,
busy at college and starting their new jobs.
I packed and carried my new portable sewing machine in its box back and forth
and set it up on the tiny two-person dining table during the day
so I would have something to do during the day when he was at work.

The fabrics in the maple leaf quilt are all from Walmart and Joann Fabrics
and are such a overwhelming color choice that I do not know what I was thinking.
It was a "learning" quilt.
I quilted it without the help a walking foot
because I did not know what that was
or that I had one in the bottom of the box.

The layout I devised after I found many of my blocks were odd sizes.
I matched up the ones that fit together in the center,
added borders and put four that were too large as cornerstones,
although I did not know what cornerstone blocks were at the time.

I still love this quilt and all its flaws and shabbiness.

My new fall pillow covers are the same intense colors,
although much better made.

I also set out my Fabric Pumpkin and "Oh, My Gourd!" Quilt.

It has been cold here this week, although today we are on a warming trend,
so I have made soup a few times.

This is adapted from
I left out the chicken broth and added water.
Mmmmmmm  ...tasty!

My song for the day comes from this pandemic duo,

Mat and Savanna Shaw

who started with this

Daddy Daughter Duet: "The Prayer"

to help people through these difficult times.

I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to this in the last few months.

It always heals me.

Now they are a number one billboard act:

#1 Billboard Emerging Artist

#1 Billboard Classic Crossover Album

Bravo!

The maple leaves are all gone from the trees.
It is late fall outside my back door,
though the sun is shining and it is warm enough to open my south facing windows.

May you and yours have a Happy Thursday!

A Lovely Day!

My Solana fabrics, Ordered Here have arrived!

They are beautiful!

I purchased these fabrics at

I am not affiliated with this shop.
I have purchased from them before and have been pleased with their service.
You will find this fabric arriving in many shops which feature Moda Fabrics.
These fabrics arrived within a week of placing my order.

I ordered the two panels and some of the blue colorway.

I may have to go back and buy some of the orange colorway.

I love these fabrics!

It is a Lovely Day!

May you have a lovely day ... :)

A Beautiful Day

I voted.

It is a cold day here with the temperature at freezing,

mostly bright sun and clouds.

When we stepped out of the polls,

we stepped into the biting, blinding, blowing whiteout

of a driving snow squall.

I have looked at clouds from

Both Sides Now

"Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day."

~

May your day be filled with good health, good people, good times,

thankfulness,

peace,

and

wonder.

Journey 2 Nebula and Beyond

A Quilt Journey is ready for lift-off.

I have been gathering supplies and making plans for a large quilt

in Essex Linen as a gift for over a year.

I have auditioned and put aside many patterns and fabrics and now have decided.

I am ready to start the journey.

I will be starting with the small projects.

I am arriving late to this party, but I have decided to join in the

Journey 2 Nebula @ Jaybird Quilts

I have the rulers and  have used them before.

I now have the small "Journey 2" patterns.

I am only going to be buying the Nebula Pattern Book,

not the Block of the Month Kit

as I want to use fabrics from my stash for this quilt.

The pattern will be available sometime in December 2020.

I plan to start the quilt in January 2021.

The pillows and projects that I make from now to January will be the

made to gift with the quilt.

Wish me a safe and happy quilty journey.

May all your quilty journeys be safe and happy wherever they lead you.
