Spindrift! ... My "Wake Up With Kona" Blog Hop Project



Hello! 
Welcome to the  "Wake Me Up with Kona Solid" Blog Hop !


"Spindrift"

Hooded Baby Wrap

Designed and Made by Scrapatches


42" square, rounded corners
Kona Solids cotton top
minkee backing and hood
stitched in the ditch 
pieced machine binding
pieced and quilted on my home machine, Janome 6600p
aurifil thread for piecing and quilting


The backing is white minkee for snuggly goodness.
I did not add batting and this wrap has a lovely drape. 


I made a small minkee backed washcloth with an extra  pinwheel block ...


... to complete the bath set!

I am thinking I will make some other baby goodies, like burp cloths and bibs 
with some of the left-over pieces and fabrics.

"Ducky" did, too!
This ceramic duck was a baby shower gift made by a friend for me over 30 years ago when I was expecting my first baby and I will soon be passing it down to my daughter.


The quilt top without the finishing border for the hood measures 40" square.


Spindrift Quilt Block


I started HERE with a jelly roll and charm pack in ...
and


 My original sketch had a different block design.
This was when I had more of a "beach ball" design in mind.
Nice ... but ...


... this is what happened when I played with the pieces and turned the corner HSTs!
Nicer!
I really liked the movement in this block pattern.
So a new quilt idea was born.


Here is a closeup of how the block creates a secondary design.
Nicest!

I am calling this quilt pattern "Spindrift" 
and am planning to make it again in a larger size and different fabrics
and I have testers who have volunteered to help me turn this into a 
whole quilt pattern.

I have turned this lovely Kona Solid quilt top into a very special project
for a very special baby-to-be!


My first grandbaby is due in May!
The Baby Parents have chosen to be surprised
so for now this baby is nicknamed "Sprout"
I am calling 2014, "The Year of the Baby."
I am a sew happy Grandma-To-Be!

    This is a cute cute project, so bright and colourfull and I love the other fabric (fleece) which you added with this special dot texture, wonderful!

    Congrats on the grandbaby. I was so glad my daughter wanted to find out the sex of my grandchildren. I told her I would only sew gender specific stuff, and she believed me. LOL

    First ~ I have to say Congratulations Grandma! You are going to have such fun with a grandchild. How exciting! I have 3 myself with one of them, an adorable 23 month old Granddaughter living here currently with hubby and I. She is so much fun to watch grow daily and makes us laugh and smile every single day.

    I LOVE the quilt design you have created. I really love the way it looks and how fun to have used it in the way you have.

    As always, you amaze me with your creation. I have a baby shower this afternoon and obviously I don't have time to whip one of these cuties up for the new baby.
