I Like Thursday # 122 ~ Trying Something New

Welcome to I Like Thursday with my friends at

I like to try new things, so I have set aside my insecurities about my artistic abilities and am trying this

I have seen crayon tinting of quilt blocks before but was afraid to try it.

For my first attempt at this technique,

I am working on the the block for Day 1.

The free pattern download may be found here:

The Neighborhood ~ Free Downloadable Here

It seems to be working.

I decided to use Bella Off-White by Moda for the background

for my first attempt at this.

I am getting ready to start the embroidery part.

I am not sure where I am going with this or if I will do all of the blocks,

but so far so good.

I have also been working on my

Here is Block 5, the first of the third pattern stitch in the crochet sampler.
This pattern can be found in this link:

My kitties and I have been staying in whenever we can so we can stitch and such.

Today is a cold gray drizzly day with ice and snow in the forecast for later today and tomorrow.

I hope you are safe and well.

May you have a Happy Thursday!

  1. Thank you for that video link! I have long admired those colored embroidery pieces and even bought crayons for it. Maybe this will give me the push to try it. Your sampler pieces are coming along nicely. I started a crochet sampler afghan back in the 1990s and got bogged down because I had trouble with some of the stitches. And I didn't gauge my stitches, so many of the blocks were off. Needless to say I frogged it all and gave up. Imagine my surprise when I found the very same afghan beautifully completed at the home of my daughter-in-law's mother! It was an inspiration, and I have saved that booklet and intend to do it "someday".

  2. I have the supplies to do the coloring and embroidery. Even prepped a piece. But haven't pulled started yet. Oh that is a lot of snow. Glad that you are staying in and warm.

  3. I have saved the pattern for "The Neighbourhood" and I might do it later. Fiona did such a project last year and I really liked it. I love that the little embroidery is glued to a framed board. Great idea to colour them first. Looking forward to step two on this project. ;^)

  5. Lovely post as always, Pat. I did a large Crabapple Hill project years ago that involved crayons..my I've got those blocks somewhere, Yikes! Anyway, I enjoyed the effect very much esp. trying for shading. Just love all your crocheted squares. Interesting how crochet patterns can mimic knitting too. All lovely stuff!
