April Showers Raindrop Mug Rug

My Spring Showers Mug Rug

A Raindrop!

When I read about the

I knew right away that I wanted to make a shaped mug rug
and this raindrop image popped right into mind.

This mug rug pattern is my own design.
May you enjoy and want to make one of your own.
I you do, please send me and email and link back to my original design.

To make my raindrop mug rug, I used my

from

The "jewel" shape from this ruler looks
just like a raindrop to me!

S0 this design shape was sew easy to make!

These are my fabrics.
The print is a fat quarter
(that was a freebie from my favorite LQS)
from
I love this fabric line!
Wish I had more.
The other fabrics are Kona solids, 10" squares and scraps from my stash.

Marti Mitchell Stripper Template

Edit:  I had an email question about the smaller ruler I used in these shaped mug rugs.  It is from the Stripper Templates @ Marti Mitchell
There are two other shapes in this packet and they are great for cutting from 2.5 inch strips and scraps and charms.
I have had these rulers for some time so I made use of them.
You could cut the same size shapes from the Hex'n'More ruler.

To read how I cut the small jewel shape with the large ruler click  HERE

I cut one "jewel" Raindrop and 1" strips of the colors as needed.

I sewed in rounds like a log cabin block.

I trimmed and squared each round with the Hex N More ruler.

Round #1 trimmed and my strips laid out as planned for the rounds.
Katniss helps :)

Continued sewing rounds.

Squared after each round.

Pressed each strip outward as I sewed.
Katniss Approves.

The Hex N More was a useful tool.

Last round

Backing
I cut backing from the fat quarter using my straight ruler to cut as it needed to be larger than the template.

Sandwiched.

I used a light green variegated top thread.
Katniss helps me thread for the quilting.

Quilting is straight line.
I outlined the center motif and then made a
sunburst type pattern rotating outward.

Machine stitched the double fold binding,
2.25 strips cut from the fat quarter.

Hand-sewing the binding to the back

Done!
