Cross Stitch Wednesday ~ Progress

I have the number 3 done and number 1 begun.

I started this last week ...

As you can see, I am a very slow stitcher and one day a week may not be enough to 

get this one done for this Halloween.

I hope to have it finished, but I am okay if it is not.

Time will tell.

Hello Fall Blog Hop ~ My Day!

Hello, Fall ~ Welcome to my Scrapatch! 

I have two new pillow covers to show you today

that I made from fabrics from my stash.

Quilty Kitty Katniss has approved this project.

Here are the four pieces I sewed to make these two sided pillow covers.

I found these fabrics a year or so ago at one of my favorite online shops,

Needle & Foot

 The little deer leaping through the sunset trees is still available,

as are the textured yellow, green and terra cotta orange fabrics.

The focus print is not, but if you want info on the fabric,

contact Bernie and she may be able to help.

I started this project on National Sew A Jelly Roll Day 

The piecing was made easy using my 

Cozy Quilt Designs Strip Tube Ruler

I find this free printout very helpful when using this ruler.

Here is the layout for the pillow top center.

Then I added  2.5" border strips. 

Sample Idea: 

This setting could also be used to set any 12.5" block on point.

The large pillow is 21" square, plus binding.

and covers an old european bed pillow. 

Then I used the reverse triangles and the end pieces to make a scrappy front

 to cover an old 13.5" by 19.5" pillow.

I used leftover strips and a rectangle of the focus print of the back of the small pillow.

I used my plastic snap plier to add decorative and functional closures

to the envelope backs.

Scrapatch Cross Stitch Wednesday # 1 ~ Getting Ready for Stitchtober

 

Loving this adorable purple gingham "OCT 31" cross stitch motif! 

I am starting a new weekly post series.

This will be a weekly update of my cross stitching progress.

I have chosen Wednesday because every Wednesday I enjoy

It is so inspiring!

I will never be able to stitch all the wonderful projects that I see here.

I do like to pick one and slowly stitch along at my own pace.

This time I have chosen the

Halloween Mix and Match from Lori Holt

The layout is a free .pdf, but you would need the 

Bee in My Bonnet Stitch Card F

and the other Lori Holt Cross Stitch Patterns listed on the pattern sheet.

Lori Holt's cross stitch patterns are my personal favorites and I have many of her patterns

and will substitute a different motif if I am missing one.

I have to use 10 or 11 count Aida cloth, a large needle and six strands and my bright Halo Go LED light, to see what I am stitching.

I am happy to have finally found some "Misty Grey" hand-dyed 11 count aida cloth.

It is from Garibaldi's Needleworks.

I am not affiliated with Garibaldi's. I am just a very happy customer.

I ordered this hand-dyed cloth on September 7th and received it this week

with plenty of time to work on my Halloween cross stitch project. 

This cloth is two sided, one side a little darker than the other

and it is bound on all sides with zig zag stitches.

It is soft and easy to stitch.

I like to use a Q-Snap plastic frame to hold my cloth. 

I am hoping to have this done for Halloween and am happily sticthing along with

The Kisses Basics come in both tone-on-tone colors 

as well as colored Kisses on a white background.

This fabric is a little more light weight than some fabric, but it has a nice weave to it 

and blends well with other quilting cottons.

I Like Thursday # 66 ~ I Like Fall

Autumn has come to the Scrapatch.

Mr Scrapatch and I have planted fall mums in out windowboxes and pots.

The orange, yellow and red colors are my favorite.

I am going to try to winter some of these this year.

I did successfully winter this purple aster in our garden for the last three years

and it is big and full of blossoms this year. 

Fall mums and asters are normally annuals in our planting zone

but they sometimes come back another year in a sheltered place.

I have hund one of my favorite fall quilts in my dining room.

This was one of my early quilts and one of the first featured Here on my blog.

This is a panel in the middle and I designed the borders myself.

These were my very first flying geese blocks. 

I love fall quilts.

I like the touch of minty green in this fabric line.

Maybe I will use these for this quilt.

Last weekend. Mr Scrapatch and I went to a favorite farm in nearby New Hampshire

where we found this happy pumpkin guy.

This photo was taken in Hollis, NH, at

Brookdale Farm

There is a photo op place in front of their farm stand,

that I edited as I did not want to show the kids and people standing in front.

We bought some very tasty cider, corn and other veggies 

and some baked goods.  Yum!

I love the sights and tastes of fall, especially home baked bread ... 

Here is the Sourdough Bread I baked this week from my

Sourdough Starter from last Thursday's post.

Last week's loaf was also leavened with a tablespoon of yeast.

This one is made with just my sourdough starter.

It made yummy grilled sandwiches with soup for dinner one night.

It has been a peaceful, happy week here in the Scrapatch.

It is time to give thanks and enjoy all the thnakful posts from my friends for

Fall Project ~ Sneak Peak

 

Quilty Kitty Maestro and I are working on fall projects.

and has been in my stash fro many years.

Read Twice, ~ Measure Twice ~ Cut and Sew Once

I made this block for a block lotto.

It is a free block found in the link below.

Tulip Nine Patch Block @ Quilters Cache 

I admit I had some difficulty and had to make this section of the block twice.

Mostly because I failed to read this carefully.

Word to the wise ... 

read twice ... 

measure twice ... 

cut and sew once. 

Not my best block, but it is to size.

Hopefully, it will play nicely with the other blocks in my friend's quilt.
