I Like Thursday # 171 ~ Being Quilty ~Being Real

Happy Thursday!

I am having a happy day playing with the fabric and threads.

Yesterday was

Moda Blockheads ~ Block 2 Release

This block was designed by Joanna Figueroa

so I followed here cutting and sewing suggestions in the link below:

Galaxy Star ~ MBH5 ~ Block 2 @ Fig Tree Quilts

I played with the colors and prints awhile before I chose to sew these fabrics.

I had to use my seam ripper after I had thought the block was done,

because I found that I turned one of the Quarter Square Triangle units

 when I sewed.

I like the finished block.

I used a new Love Sew Wool Quilter's Clapper

pressing tool today that I found on Amazon.

I like the way the curved wool piece helps me to press seams open.

I use it as a clapper to keep my seams flat while I am piecing units.

This is a photo of me choosing today's fabrics on a new social media phone app

that I recently joined by a friend's invitation.

It is can be found and downloaded to your android or iPhone in your app store.

It is called

Be Real

The intent here is to post one unfiltered photo per day with a caption.

Each photo can only be seen by friends for 24 hours.

Then you get a notification to take a new photo of the day.

You can silence the notifications and if it arrives at an inconvenient time,

you can ignore it and can still post a photo later.

You do not have to post everyday.

However, you can only see your friend's photo of the day, when you post.

I like seeing what my friend posts so I like to play along.

I do not send friend requests.

If you are active on this app and wish to share with me,

please send me a request and post a comment or send an email

letting me know you have done so and I will accept.

I do like to be real.

Please join my friends and I @

I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

and have a Happy Thursday!

Free Pattern Friday Linky Party ~ Moda Blockheads 5 and More!

Here is my Moda Blockheads 5 ~ Bright Star Block

The light and breeze coming in my window today is from the off-shore hurricane in the Atlantic.  Current forecast modules show it staying far enough out to sea from the New England coast that we will only get some rain and light winds tonight and tomorrow.  May all in the path of the storm stay safe and well.

This is a free block pattern and sew along.

All you need to know is in the links below to sew your own version of this block!

MBH5 ~ Block 1 ~ Posted Here

This Bright Star Block is designed by

Betsy Chutchian ~ Her Blog Post Here

I looked at all the half square triangles in this block
and decided I was going to cut and piece it differently.
I knew what I wanted to do.

Before I had time to figure it all out,

I fortunately saw the someone else had done all the work for me ...

I used the simplified cutting and sewing instructions posted by

MBH5 ~ Block 1 ~ Fig Tree Quilts

Here are the Dawn on the Prairie fabrics from

Stephanie Sliwinski @ Fancy That House Design

that I chose for my block.

Here are the pieces to the puzzle.

I used my preferred method of cutting my 1/4 inch seams

before I sewed my flying geese and flip and sew rectangles.

I pressed my seams to nest and sewed.

Not perfect, but I am very happy with my block.

I Like Thursday #169 ~ Settling In and Sewing On

Happy Thursday!

I am happily settling into my newly renovated quilty corner.

Please join my friends and I as we celebrate the good things in life or

I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

I am so happy to be back to sewing.

Here are my first blocks for my new start.

I made both sized blocks.  The large block is the Autograph Star Bonus Block,

which is intended as a label block for the back of their quilt plan.

I also made the smaller variation version as a classic Sawtooth Star Block.

Below is the link for Main Page for this new sew along ...

Moda Blockheads 5 ~ All Info Here

I like these fabrics because they have a cross stitch motifs
and are autumn colored. I love the colors of this changing season.

My fabric links may be found here.

I hope to keep up with this sew along

and I am working on a layout for the quilt I want to make.

I am also making progress on mScrappy Chains & Plates Quilt
and am working on the applique centers today.

The kitties have, of course, been helping with my sewing.

So helpful ... :)

I am also making plans to play with the

These surprise packages o fabric and goodies always make me smile.

These mystery boxes sometimes sell out fast
so pre-order yours today if you want to receive one.

So all is well in my happy sewing space today.

This is in part due to good news on two medical issues with Mr Scrapatch.
His fractured wrist is healing very well after surgery and he has new removable splint which he will be wearing for a week or two.
Also, the nuclear bone scan on his spine did not show any indicators that he needs further treatment at this time.

So life is good in the scrapatch on this hot and humid and sunny day.

It is a good day to stay in the air conditioning and sew.

May you and yours be well and safe and happy this Thursday.

Free Pattern Friday ~ Moda Blockheads 5

Moda Blockheads 5 has arrived!

Moda Blockheads, for the most part, has been a wonderful
 and always free sew along.
At the end of the first year, it became a book.

This year looks to be one free pattern a week on Wednesdays again.

I do not know if I will be participating.

I have a track record or making a few blocks on each round and then not completing the quilt.

I still have this fabric pull together and am toying with the idea
of using it for this round and just adding the block
I made to the new mix.

I could also just keep making the MBH4 blocks.

I only made one block that time.

The next year I used this block as the center block for

This SAHRR is one of my favorite starts but is, alas, still unfinished.

Before that there was My Moda Blockheads 2 Start

I really loved this fabric selection.

Not sure where that block is now.

Hmmmmmmm.

I am wondering if I should even think about starting this round this year.

The thing is that the 1st Block release date this year is actually on my birthday.

Decision time this weekend.

Anyone want to speculate on what I will choose?

;)
