Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 33

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week

I am back after after another week plus of being away from my computer.

Nothing life changing; just life happening.

I have been working on my

Purple Shawl Project ~ Last Posted Here

and have been making good progress.

I have started calling this my "Winging It Shawl"

as I have been designing as I go.

After adding the first shoulder in this photo,

I decided it looks like I am adding wings to the square

that forms the back of the shawl.

The color changing yarn that I am using for this project is new to me.

I found this Wool Wonders Yarn on Amazon .

The lighter yarn is Mauve Pink. The darker yarn is Purple Iris.

I like the feel of this yarn. The wool content gives it the soft fuzzy feel of wool but it is very nice to the touch. This Wool Wonders is a soft, single ply blend of 30% Australian Wool and 70% acrylic.

It is a variegated #4 Medium Worsted Aran Yarn.

I cannot say how this yarn washes and wears yet. Time will tell.

I do have a scrap yarn project in process which has some of this yarn.

I will wash the scrap project as soon as it is finished.

I love the fall colors that are coming soon.

Here I am casting on the other shoulder and I needed to figure out how to make the short rows and the neck decrease on the other side so it would match the other shoulder.

I could not find any online or book instructions showing me how to make short rows in the Tunisian Crochet Knit Stitch (TKS) on the left side of any project.

I even asked in a Tunisian Crochet group that I have joined on Facebook and got no answers.

After trial and error, found that placing the hook in the TKS in the row below made an almost seamless transition.

I am literally winging it as I go.

Here is my progress.

I have the shoulder two wings on the back of my shawl

and I am ready to start the next part of my planned design.

I have not seen any shawl like this online.

I am not a pattern writer but if there is interest in how I made this, I will try to make a tutorial.

Crochet is still my favorite thing to do right now.

Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 32

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 32

This week I am continuing my purple crochet shawl project.

I finished the border on Purple Shawl ~ Back Block

early in the week and now am working on adding the two sides to the block

to make the shoulder sections.

The stitch I have chosen for the sides is the

Tunisian Knit Stitch (TKS).

This is a very easy stitch.

This looks much like a regular knitting stitch and is achieved by inserting the hook into the space between the front and back bar (also called the legs) of the stitch, front to back and pulling up a loop onto the hook.

Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 31

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 31

Here is my progress on the Perfectly Purple Shawl

that I am making for my purple loving friend's birthday this month.

I have been working on this shawl

Inside, Outside and All Around the House

with the help of my kitty cats.

Maestro has been particularly helpful with this project.

I was working on a different stitch for this project when I saw this

Mesa Hat Pattern from YL Yarn Crafts

and it was just what I had envisioned for my purple yarns.

I am adapting this stitch for my own shawl design.

I am really enjoying working on this project.

I was working on my Pretty Pink Radius Shawl ~ Started Here

I did finish this Pretty Pink Shawl in time to gift it to ...

... my friend, Elaine, at her birthday luncheon.

It fit her perfectly and is the same color pink as the shirt she is wearing. I picked this color yarn because I have seen her wear this shade of pink many times.

I added a border and a button closure to the original

As you can see, my friend was very happy with the results.

I am hoping to be back to posting weekly on my blog.

Stich Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 28

Opps ... I missed posting this last week.

Sorry about that.

I have been in summertime mode for weeks now

and spending many hours outside away from my computer.

I have been carrying my yarn bag with me a I am making progress on the

Pretty Pink Radius Shawl ~ Started Here

There is a link to original pattern for purchase,

but I have been making my own modifications as I stitch.

In this photo I am sitting at the table on our covered deck.

Here is the first quarter of this WIP.

This one is slow going for me as I am using light 3 weight yarn

and a 5.0mm Tunisian crochet hook and a much tighter stitch than shown in the original pattern.

I am enjoying the process.

I have actually make a lot of progress and I am now on the last quarter.

Here I am sitting on the big swing in the late afternoon.

I need to have this shawl finished by next week as it is a birthday gift

for a friend.

I hope she likes it!

Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 24

The color of the week is pink ...

... and this is my new Tunisian Crochet start.

I am making a shawl for another friend who likes light pink.

I am stitching a new pattern design that I found on the internet.

It is stitched by way of short rows that create this wedge

which will become a half-circle shawl.

The stitch is Tunisian Crochet Simple Stitch (TSS).

My pink roses are blooming on the arch over my garden gate

and I have been spending a lot of my days outside on my backyard swing

which is just visible across the yard by the white fence line.

to add to my beautiful garden.

Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 23

Welcome to Stitch Sew Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 22

I have been taking three steps forward and three steps back

and exploring the importance of gauge in crochet this week.

This was the three steps forward and I was working on Stripe 15 in my

Christmas Candy Stripe Sampler Afghan

This does not look bad from the distance, in part because I did not show the sides of my afghan, which had taken on a large curve in the multicolored row strips at the top. When I laid it out and measured, my Stripe 14 was 4" high when it should have been 3" high according to the pattern. My stiches were too loose. The green stripe below it was pulled in at the sides, indicating my stitches there were too tight.

I corrected this by pulling out Stripes 14 and 13 and changed hooks.

Most of this afghan has been done with the green I Hook (5.5mm) on the bottom.

I used a larger hook (6.0mm) for the light green Linen Stitch Stripe. I am usually inclined to stitch this pattern, also called the Moss Stitch, tightly.

The multicolored lace pattern is new to me and called the Larksfoot Stitch in the pattern. I really needed the video instructions for this stitch. It calls for placing the elongated stitch across two rows and needs to be done loose enough for it to lay flat. I made it too loose the first time around, so I used a smaller (5.0mm) hook to get the correct size.

This is my progress in the redo so far, showing the side of my work.

You can see the rows now look even on the side edge.

Now it is time to redo the white row and I am putting this aside.

The first time around I used the creamy Snow White skein that I pulled out once before. Even at a distance from the previous white strips, it looks dull and off-white. I am waiting for a new skein of Snow White to arrive and hoping the dye lot will be a better match.

This week I stitched Stripes 1-9 for my

Christmas Candy Striped Sampler Afghan ~ Started Here

The monthly kits include a written pattern and yarn and there are how-to videos for both right and left handed crocheters online for club members.

I am requested this as a gift from Mr. Scrapatches so I could revive and build my crochet skills. It has been very helpful.

I love the sampler rows stitch patterns, particularly this Mixed Checkerboard stripe. I am not sure I would have placed the stitches correctly without the help of the video instructions.
