Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ Week 30

I have been busy in my sewing corner this week. 

Here is one of my favorite blocks:

This is my Bouquet block for the 

Summer in the Garden Quilt Along

I have not sewn this block yet.

I may or may not, as I need to layout my blocks

 and see if I have enough for the quilt I want to make. 

It is a pretty block.

I could always make a pillow with it or add it to the back of the quilt. 

Time for another day of sewing fun.

Update: 

My 30 Days of Improv  Day 3 block is done! 

This took about 20 minutes start to finish. 

I was thinking to improvise a square in a square block.

So I cut an oversized square.

Then I cut off the corners to be used to frame my center.

The I trimmed down the center square. 

I will save the blue strips for another block.

This is what I kept of the blue grunge for this block.

Then I cut some narrow strips to frame the center. 

I sewed the strips around the center and then trimmed it to size for my triangles.

I am happy with how this block worked up.

It is a slightly larger than my day 1 and 2 blocks, 

but it will all fit together somehow in the quilt.

To-Do Tuesday ~ Another Week Done; Another Begun

 Here is my Week 6 ~ Weathervane Block for the

Summer in the Garden Quilt Along

This was a fun and easy block to sew.  

The instructions were for making this block with hour glass units.  I cut the squares oversize and trimmed and squared my hourglass block to 6.5" before sewing them into the 12.5" block.

This was my Monday Goal for my Weekly Sewing To-Do List.

Let me check how I did working on my Goals for Last Week:

1) Make more Kinship Fusion Sampler Blocks. ... yes.

My Goal is to get all 100 blocks done this year during the quilt along and I am on track to complete them this year at this time.

2) Make the Weekly Summer in the Garden quilt block next Monday ... yes

I am enjoying sewing this summer garden.  My outside garden is a task this year and the weather has not been helpful.

3) Sew More Blue/Gray/White Log Cabin Blocks ...  no.

I need to dedicate a day or two a week just to sewing these blocks.

4) Make more Cozy and Magical blocks for the Sampler Spree QAL ~ Main Page ... again this is 100 blocks ... no.

This in the next project in my queue..

5) Do some hand stitching, embroidery or cross stitching.  I am working on this Sunflower Cross Stitch Project ~ Started Here ... no

I actually did do some stitches on this but do not feel like I can call it an accomplished goal.   The sunflower stitching is feeling laborious to me.  I am thinking to set this aside and try my hand at a different hand stitching UFO.

6) Gardening Goals ... the usual trimming, weeding and deadheading, etc ... and enjoying my beautiful flowers ... yes.

I was able to get out and help my garden grow a few time this week.  We are on the second day of an "unhealthy air" alert and it has been hazy.  Yesterday, I could not stay outside even to water as I got a sinus headache.  Mr. Scrapatch had finish the watering for me when he came in.  Today I have been able to go out for short durations.  Tonight a line of strong thunderstorms are on the radar. 

Added Goal during the week ...   I have been thinking about this for some time but I decided on Wednesday night that it was time to sell some of my old Sew Sampler boxes that I now know I will never sew.  I posted the first ones in a swap and sale online group on Facebook last week and plan to do more this week.  I have never really sold anything online.  Learning how to price and post and invoice and ship has taken me some time. 

Score: Draw:  3 yes and 3 no 

 

Goals for the New Week:

1) Make more Kinship Fusion Sampler Blocks. 

2) Make the Weekly Summer in the Garden quilt block next Monday.

3) Continue my Sew Sampler Sell Off.I have plans to use the small nest egg from these sales to buy some new fabric I really want. 

4) Make more Cozy & Magical Sampler Spree Blocks 

5) Find a  hand stitching, embroidery or cross stitching UFO and do some slow stitching. 

6) Decide on my fabrics for the 30 Days of Improv Blocks and be ready to sew for the start day.

7) Block off time that will be "Log Cabin Blocks Only" time and get sewing.  This quilt has to be done for my son's birthday this fall.

Welcome to my Summer Garden, too! 

On Monday, there were two new blocks for the 

Summer in the Garden Quilt Along

The main block was this cute Honeybee Block Posted Here

There was also a Bonus Block 

Garden Gate Block ~ Free Pattern Here

Although I like this block, it does not say "garden gate " to me.

So I devised this improv block as a stylized version ...

... of my real garden gate, pictured here with my pink roses just starting to bloom.

Looking at it, I may add green cut-offs to the upper two corners to represent the trees in the back of the yard. 

Sewing this was fun.

I decided to celebrate the sun coming out to shine today by making this sunny version of the Garden Gate Bonus Block posted by Moda Bake Shop for the quilt along. In this photo you can seethe zinnias in the window box outside the window in my sewing corner.

Last Week's List:

1) Make more Kinship Fusion Sampler Blocks ... yes ... 60 blocks done; 40 blocks to do

2) Make the Weekly Summer in the Garden  ... yes ... see above

3) Sew More Blue/Gray/White Log Cabin Blocks ... yes, but need to make more progress.  I will post about this quilt in the making soon.

4) Start my Cozy and Magical fabric project ... yes

5) Do some hand stitching, embroidery or cross stitching ... yes, pulled out my sunflower project form 2020. 

6) Get back out in the garden (weather permitting) and weed, trim, deadhead and other basic garden maintenance ... yes; although rain continues to be a big factor in my quilty corner.  Hoping for a few days of drier weather soon. 

Do that is a Yes on all goals ... woo-hoo!

Goals for This Week:

1) Make more Kinship Fusion Sampler Blocks.

Goal is to get all 100 blocks done this year during the quilt along.  As the we are only about 20 days into this year, I have 80 days to complete 40 more blocks.  

2) Make the Weekly Summer in the Garden quilt block next Monday. 

I am continuing to enjoy this one.  I am working on this week's bonus block this morning.

3) Sew More Blue/Gray/White Log Cabin Blocks ... I need to post about this.  It has been an interesting experience so far. More later.

4) Make more Cozy and Magical blocks for the Sampler Spree QAL ~ Main Page ... again this is 100 blocks. 

5) Do some hand stitching, embroidery or cross stitching.  I am working on this Sunflower Cross Stitch Project ~ Started Here

6) Gardening Goals ... the usual trimming, weeding and deadheading, etc ... and enjoying my beautiful flowers.

Summer in the Garden ~ On a Rainy Monday

Rainy Monday = Funday in the Quilty Garden

 Today was another day of deluging in a string of deluging days.

That is okay.  

It was a good day to stay in and sew a summer garden. 

Monday is the day a new block is posted to the 

Summer in the Garden Quilt Along

Sew I stayed inside and sewed with my pretty flower fabrics.

Today's block is this pretty  Bird of Paradise block.

Here is my 12.5" unfinished block.

Note: If you are sewing, you may want to watch for possible cutting corrections for this block as there have been reports of possible errors in the Facebook group. 

I saw them, as I, unsuspectingly, posted the link to the pattern.

Bravely, I cut and sewed.

There is now a correction notice at the bottom of the original post regarding the size of the D squares.  This did not affect my making of the block because I followed my favorite method for square in a square block.

The cutting instructions say to cut the center of this square in a square at 4.5 inches.  This is due to the fact that the first round is a stitch and flip method.

I did not use the stitch and flip as I feel it wastes the cut off fabric.

I fussy cut my large floral to 3.5 inches.

Then I followed my favorite method for making square in a square blocks,

Since I did not use the pattern cutting measurements,

 I cannot further comment on them.

There are a lot of different ways to make the same block and all are valid.

My block did measure 12.5 inches so I am good.

I did end up with  this "Bonus Block." 

As I had cut the 4.5 inch square, I made an 8.5 inch Economy Block

to add to my quilt.

I Like Thursday # 101 ~ Back To Sewing in My Happy Place.

Happy Thursday!

I am back to playing with the fabrics in my happy place.

Mr. Scrapatch is still recovering but he is back to work.

Today he is at a regular appointment with his heart doctor before going in.

Yesterday he had physical therapy. Tomorrow he has physical therapy.

On the weekend, he will have a honey-do list of small tasks to catch up on.

 

Above are the fabrics that I am considering for my 

Macaron Mystery Quilt

Fabrics A-D and Background 1 are pretty much set.

I am debating the second background which features a larger role according to the 

Fabric Requirements ~ Posted Here

I like all of these choices.

I just need to decide what I want in this quilt.

The green, for example, would give the quilt a much softer look than the white cross fabric. The gray Architextures, one of my favorite background fabrics, would give it a more modern look. The creamy leaf has a porcelain look to me.

I am trying not to look at the sneak peek option when choosing fabrics.

Although I did sign up for it, I did not open the email.

I also have some of the pretty city scene print for an optional outer border. 

Decisions, decisions!

Which background fabric would you choose? 

I am making progress with my Kinship Fusion Sampler Blocks.

I am making two blocks at a time, 

some regular pieced and some foundation paper pieced. 

Block 55 is FPP to make those sharp flying geese points easily.

I may make a mini FPP tutorial for this block.

Anyone interested?

I am also keeping up with the Summer in the Garden QAL blocks.

I am loving finding just the right fabric in my stash and scraps for these blocks.

I am trying to decide if I am going to add any blue or purple fabrics to my garden.

So far it is a pink, orange, green, yellow and white quilt. 

Whatever I decide, I know that there are no mistakes in quilting.

The kitties are all well.

There are three cats in this photo.

Nutmeg is on the porch looking in the window through the sheer curtain.

Maestro and Katniss were alarmed that there might be a kitty intruder

for moment. When they realized it was only their little sister kitty,

Maestro went met her at the open front door and gave her a kitty kiss. 

Outside the critters and birds are ravenous as it is either very hot or very stormy.

This squirrel is no longer "baffled" by the baffle we put on the pole to save some seeds for the birds.  I looked out the window one morning and there he was, chomping away.  I had to smile at this crafty critter. 

Over the 4th of July weekend, we had a backyard barbecue with the boys.

Dad made his Famous Dad's Homemade Barbecue Sauce and grilled chicken.

I made a red white and blue ice cream cake. We bought blueberry, cherry vanilla and vanilla ice cream at Shaw Farms Dairy.

I used all fruit blueberry and cherry preserves for the "toppings" 

and crushed golden oreos for the crust. 

 I have made ice cream cakes for special occasions for years in a springform pan.

This one was my favorite ever.

Stitch Sew & Show ~ Week 26

 

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ Week 26

This week I have been busy in my happy place 

and I am feeling more sewing accomplished.

I love this

Bee Skep Block from Moda Bake Shop

which was a bonus block this week. 

I could not resist fussy cutting one of the big beautiful bees 

from a fat quarter of 

Painted Meadow by Robin Pickens

I have a fat quarter bundle of this but have never cut into it before.

It is sitting on an open shelf in my sewing area waiting for the "right" project.

Looking at this fabric makes me happy.

I also made this block for the 

Summer in the Garden Quilt Along

This is this week's main block.

I also made a 5" scrap block with the cut-offs from the large block.

It was stormy off an don here yesterday so all my garden block photos 

were taken inside.

Today is hot and humid and sunny again.

Monday I made new blocks for my Kinship Fusion QAL quilt.

I am playing with these pretty fabrics today.
