Christmas in July ~Then and Now ~ Blog Hop ~ My Day

Welcome to my

Christmas in July ~ Then and Now

Here is my "Then" quilt.

In 2012, I posted this photo of Katniss' First Christmas with us
and said I had made it a "few years ago" so I know it predates 2012.
As it does not appear in any other photos on my blog, I know it also
predates my blog which was started in 2009.

All I know is it is the first Christmas quilt I made.

It was made with a panel, some fat quarters and yardage
from an old Nancy Halvorsen collection.
I love the colors in this quilt and the vintage designs.

I made a pillow with then leftover fabrics

Here is the pillow with my "Now" quilt.
The greens and shades of red are similar and there is a bit of gold.

My "Now" quilt is this one ...

Both projects are beautiful! I don't know which I like better--love the dark colors in the "then" quilt but the brightness of the "now" quilt is lovely too! Thanks for sharing them.

Love your quilts - I'm sure the scrappy new quilt will be gorgeous, too. My question..."Whatever happened to your first Christmas Quilt?" You never mentioned and it sounded as though you no longer had access to it. I hope to do my first Christmas quilt one of these days.

I love the Poinsettia Winter quilt....it's so lovely. I just found and ordered Jason Yenter's book and am looking for the fabrics now. Would you tell me how many yards of the border stripe is needed for the quilt. I've only found the fabric in one place and would like to order it before it's gone; even before my book arrives. Thanks so much. Love your post! Blessings from southeastern West Virginia.

Oh, my goodness, Pat! I love your Poinsettia Winter quilt too - that is stunning! - Woo, that border really elevates the already-wonderful design. The first one is lovely too. Thanks for sharing these pretties!

Those quilts are totally amazing! The "now" quilt is beyond gorgeous and the fabrics are so bright. I love it! Thank you, Pat, for sharing your "then and now" with us.

Both quilts are great for adding seasonal cheer. The "then" quilt is classy and reminds me to look through panels from my start in the quilting world. You've inspired me to make something similar which I think is possible with my growth in understanding choosing colors. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pat! Both quilts are beautiful but I am especially fond of the now one. I love those fabrics and colors - how nice you can make a scrappy quilt using the leftovers. ~smile~ Roseanne

The fabrics give that quilt an almost 'color wash' look - fabulous!

Christmas quilts are great, aren't they? Your "then" quilt looks old-timey now and very comforting. Your "now" quilt is astonishingly pretty. The white makes it really dazzling. It's funny how our color choices change over time, isn't it? I have a Christmas quilt I made circa 2003 that uses colors very much like your "then" quilt...and the Christmas quilt I am slowly working on now is much lighter. I suppose we will make it easier on the quilt historians than if we didn't follow any identifiable paths. :)

Your quilts are just fabulous.

Including that red plaid really makes the reds part of the quilt. I like both the then and then now quilts.

Both quilts are beautiful. I'm going to have to find that pattern and fabric.

I don't think I could pick a favorite of the two of these. They are both so very beautiful. Each unique in there own way. I love em and so glad to see you participating today. I would have hated not seeing these ... They truly are beautiful.
