Scrappy Saturday Quilt Start ~ Animal Quilt Challenge 2024

These scrap fabrics landed on my cutting table today to start a new project.

Over ten years ago, I made This Little Blessings Baby Quilt

for my grand-daughter with this fabric.

I have saved the scraps for a special quilt for another special baby.

Time to sew that special quilt.

I will have to add more fabrics from my stash to make all the blocks.

My plan is to make this new quilt sewing along with the ...

Corinne & Cecile 2024 QAL Challenge

A few years ago, I participated in this annual challenge

and the quilt that resulted is one of my personal favorites.

So I have decided to try my hand again.

This years theme is an Animal Quilt.

I checked and my choice of animal has been approved.

I will be making a toddler quilt for my grand-niece who is a year old.

Her nursery and birthday theme and her recent birthday theme was bees.

I will be using this free Bee Block from the

Mix and Match Blocks from Tilda's World

and possible the Bird Block and Flower Blocks too for my quilt.

I am not sure of the layout.

I will let my quilty muse choose the layout as I go.

The challenge calls for making a quilt with a minimum of 16 blocks.

Hope to have the first block to show you soon!

Quilting In Progress

Quilting in Progress

I have almost competed the quilting on the

and hope to be sewing on the binding later today!

In the photo above I have completed all the straight line grid and in the ditch stitching that I did in the center of the quilt and I am onto the border.

To do this on my home machine, I remove all the safety pins that I had around the edge and I replace them with regular pins.  I pull the top and backing nice a flat and pin all around the outside edge of the quilt and then I run a line of stitching 1/4" from the edge of the top, removing the pins as I go.

I like to stich around the edge of the quilt when I am get to the border as I feel this holds the backing smooth and in place and it helps to make the quilting lines in the border pop.

More pictures later!

May you have a happy quilty day!

:)

Little Blessings ~ In Progress

A Little Blessing Quilt
Ready to Quilt!

It is a  gray and rainy day here in my quilty corner,
so this is the bets I can do for photos right now.

I started this quilt Here

 Pattern from Andover Fabrics

This is a free online quilt pattern and the .pdf may be found Here

I changed this pattern by adding a row on the bottom to make it rectangular. My quilt top measures 50" by 56"

I also made this a scrappy "I Spy" farm animals type quilt by adding some  squares that I fussy cut from scraps from other projects.

little blessings flannel

This is the flannel backing fabric I found online for this quilt.

Here is the binding fabric that the baby mommy picked out.
