Scrappy Saturday Quilt Start ~ Animal Quilt Challenge 2024

These scrap fabrics landed on my cutting table today to start a new project.

Over ten years ago, I made This Little Blessings Baby Quilt

for my grand-daughter with this fabric.

I have saved the scraps for a special quilt for another special baby.

Time to sew that special quilt.

I will have to add more fabrics from my stash to make all the blocks.

My plan is to make this new quilt sewing along with the ...

Corinne & Cecile 2024 QAL Challenge

A few years ago, I participated in this annual challenge

and the quilt that resulted is one of my personal favorites.

So I have decided to try my hand again.

This years theme is an Animal Quilt.

I checked and my choice of animal has been approved.

I will be making a toddler quilt for my grand-niece who is a year old.

Her nursery and birthday theme and her recent birthday theme was bees.

I will be using this free Bee Block from the

Mix and Match Blocks from Tilda's World

and possible the Bird Block and Flower Blocks too for my quilt.

I am not sure of the layout.

I will let my quilty muse choose the layout as I go.

The challenge calls for making a quilt with a minimum of 16 blocks.

Hope to have the first block to show you soon!

10 Quilts ~ 10 Days ~ Day 5 / Scrappy Saturday

10 Quilts ~ 10 Days ~ Day 5

This is my

Pink Scrappy Stripes & Curves Quilt

I started this quilt with a pile of scrap fat quarters, smaller scraps and leftover yardage from other quilts.

Then I made a pieced Improv Dresden block for the

Scrappy Fan Blade Block ~ Curves Challenge

In order to duplicate the original blocks,

I made my own templates to cut the curves for the rest of my blocks.

When it came time to set the blocks and design the top,

I used fabrics from my stash.

The background whites are scrappy, too.

There are pieces of four different white tonals.

Inside on the sofa, the whites all blend in together,

but outside in natural light, the different shades of the whites are easily seen.

Some of the white-on-whites are creamier than others.

The color variations in the background do not bother me.

I used it as a design element and think it adds depth and definition.

This quilt has always been one of my Maestro's favorite nap places.

I chose this scrappy quilt for day 5 of my Quilt Show

because today is Scrappy Saturday!

I love playing with my scraps.

I am still piecing blocks for my

Scrappy Irish Chain Quilt

One more block to finish before I can layout and pieces my top.

Time to Sew!

Happy Scrappy Saturday!

Weekend Sewing ~ Going Scrappy!

Half Square Triangles ~ 1st of many

These are for the

Grassy Creek Mystery @ Quiltville

The fabric quandary is over.

I am going scrappy!

I love the scrappy goodness of Bonnie Hunter's quilts

They are a feast for the eyes.

After yesterday's winter storm we are fortunate to have power.

Many people in our state do not.

Our lights went off last evening, but quickly came back on

It is bitterly cold here.

Mr Scrapatch is outside scrapping ice and snow off the steps, walks and driveway.

I feel blessed in my warm and snag little home.

May you have a happy quilty weekend!
