Read Twice, ~ Measure Twice ~ Cut and Sew Once

I made this block for a block lotto.

It is a free block found in the link below.

I admit I had some difficulty and had to make this section of the block twice.

Mostly because I failed to read this carefully.

Word to the wise ... 

read twice ... 

measure twice ... 

cut and sew once. 

Not my best block, but it is to size.

Hopefully, it will play nicely with the other blocks in my friend's quilt.

I Like Thursday # 65 ~ Love, Friendship, Loyalty

You are always welcome at the scrapatch.

This my new front security door, door knocker and fall door wreath.

There is a new storm door, too. 

Mr Scrapatch has been busy this summer weatherizing our drafty enclosed front porch

 with new combination windows and doors.

We shall be very cozy this winter.

The door knocker is a claddagh ring,
which represents love, friendship and loyalty.

Both of us are one of the 70 million people around the globe who are of Irish descent.

The weather has started to cool here and I have been baking bread again.

 Like many people of the pandemic, I am trying my skills at making Sourdough Bread.

Most of what I have learned has been from

King Arthur Sourdough Bread Starter How-To

and recipes.

This is Rustic Sourdough using the "discard" half cup from my starter jar

to which the directions call for adding a tablespoon or two of yeast

 to add stability and ensure the rise. 

My hubby likes this recipe and I do not like to throw anything out.

This jar of starter is less than a week old.

This is the second jar I have started as the first one, started in the spring,

 got a little too runny and discolored after a week of neglect.  

I have read you can scoop out the discolored crust at the top 

and use the good stuff underneath, but I am very cautious.

I had been storing my starter on the counter, but this new one is being kept in the fridge.

The washi tape line shows where it was last night when I put it in the fridge.

It needs to rise to double to be feed or used.

By next week I will be using only the sourdough to leaven and leaving off the yeast.

I will try to post another photo then.

I found their yummy jams at a farmer's market on in Olympia, Washington,
when I visited my daughter's family while my son-in-law was stationed near there.
I now order them online and look forward to the lovely pink box 
a few times a year. 



The first apples and cider of the season are starting be available.
I love apple season! 

It is Thursday so I shall enjoy a visit with my friends

A Stash of Leaves

I have been reorganizing and finding fabric treasures.

These are what I have left of a Maywood Studio line, 

circa 2008.

It is called "Leaves" by Jackie Robinson,

whose fabrics are always rich in color and have beautiful border prints.

I am making a small project with these and am wishing I maybe had more of these scraps.

I actually have few nice size pieces of the border stripe,

but not enough on the regular prints to make a lap size quilt.

I have not found other fabrics in my stash that work well with them

as the tone and colors are so unique. 

Maybe I will just find a cream background and see what I can do with what I have.

Maybe I will tuck the rest of the scraps back into my treasured stash.

I love my fabric.

September has arrived with cooler air and nourishing rains. 

Time for fall fabrics and black quilty kitties ... 

... and orange quilty kitties. 

I have left a basket open on my cutting table 

and all three kitties take their turn.

It is my favorite time for quilts,

as I love the fall colors and designs.

I love the blue in this line, especially the blue and orange pumpkin print.

I am still deciding what to sew with these pretty fabrics.

I have been enjoying my fabric and family this week.

On Saturday, it was Mr Scrapatch's 70th Birthday

 and I made his favorite cherry vanilla buttercream frosted cake. 

The Boys came over to celebrate with us.

Mr Scrapatch established a new post-covid19 birthday cake tradition ...

waving out the candles so as not to blow on the cake.

I wish I had thought to take a video. 

The Girls cpould not be with us, of course, as my daughter and grand-darling 

are is Texas awaiting my SIL to return from his deployment. 

We enjoy our little from afar.

My grand-darling is six now and enjoys the puzzles we send her.

This is her first 100 piece puzzle that we just sent her yesterday.

My daughter sent me a video later of her placing the last pieces.

Everly was so happy with her accomplishment. 

So it has been a happy week for me.

My Snap Flower Table Topper Tutorial ~ Free on Google Docs

This is my original Snap Flower Table Quilt.

I designed and posted this table topper

Here in 2016

The idea is that you can unsnap the individual petals and use them as snack mats

so you always have something ready at your fingertips 

on which to set your mug or plate.

For awhile the pattern was in my Craftsy Store, 

bu it was removed when this website changed.

I miss the old Craftsy site, where small designers could share their 

patterns for free and for profit.

I have no aspirations o become the next big quilt designer.

I enjoyed my little bitty spot.

My dear friend, 

Dorian @ Ridge Top Quilts

recently asked me for the tutorial and made this lovely version.

I never would have thought to use a large scale floral print in  this manner,

but I love the look of this topper.

Dorian used the snaps she had on hand,

not the newer plastic ones that I use.

Any snaps will work, really.
