Shaking My Pom-Pom Scarf
in the spring breeze!
This is sew much more than a pretty scarf!
This scarf has pockets!
A pom-pom tool holder!
A mini-pincushion!
This is my new
Sewing Chatelaine Scarf
and Pom-Pom Pin Cushion Cone!
In Your Words Blog Hop Giveaway.
I have been fondling these pretties from time to time
and musing on the perfect project.
When the Shake Your Pom-Poms Blog Hop was announced
I love to try new ideas.
It took a lot of thought ...
so she decided to sleep on it.
this took some time
Finally the sun moved off the cutting table and Butterfly
moved to my thinking chair to do some more thinking.
Butterfly thinks better when she is hanging upside down off the chair
... and has been well petted.

... and has been well petted.
My plan was ready for the stitching stage.
I had found a beautiful mottled blue/purple satin at JoAnn's
and bought a skinny 1/4 yard
I wanted to the focus Sophie's beautiful star flower block.
The pattern for this Daisy Star block is a freebie on Sophie's site...

I also wanted to use some of the pretty squares she shared and I wanted to add purple from my stash and I had been thinking of making a crazy quilt type scarf with the satin for the backing.
Butterfly and I had decided that we did not want to cut the squares up too much and to just enjoy the pretty fabric and add the print border.
I started sewing ... in a hard molded folding chair
so that Butterfly might continue helping in my sewing chair.
so that Butterfly might continue helping in my sewing chair.
I sewed the squares to a long piece strip of muslin
as if making a string quilt
I pressed each square as I sewed
added border fabric strips to the sides
I hand stitched echoes in four perle cotton colors around the star flower.
This is not part of the quilting as it only goes through the muslin.
I have not added the backing yet.

close up of hand stitching
I machine stitched some decorative stitches.
Added a small pocket with decorative machine stitches and trim.
I found that I could tuck my favorite embroidery scissors through a pom-pom and use the cover to hold it in place.
pillowcase style on three sides with fronts together
and then turned inside out to finish the bottom edge by machine ...
By now Katniss was awake to inspect my work and offer her help
by trying to catch and eat these butterfly pins
as she seems to think they are bugs.
I have to watch Katniss very closely in my sewing room.
On the fourth open side I tuned under the hems and added a strip of the pom-pom trim and used the same decorative machine stitch
that I used on the small pocket through all layers to close the seam.

Close up of my finished sewing chatelaine.
I added a small purchase pin cushion I had that was a perfect addition.
The roomy large pocket is very useful for putting those little balls of perle cotton that Katniss likes to chase and other hand sewing items.
The small pocket holds several of my tools and keeps them handy and I can actually walk into the other room and take the pins and needles with me so I do not have to worry about Katniss getting into them if they are left in the open if I want to make a cup of tea
or to take my hand sewing to a comfy chair in another room.
I like!

Just beautiful...wish i had thought of that but you did a much better job then i would of, beautiful
What would we do without our cats? Mine likes to plant herself on the floor right under my feet by the pedal or the ironing board. Love your chatelaine! And the colors are so springlike. Will have to go and check out the link for the star block. Thanks for sharing.
What a great idea! Nice way to keep everything handy. Love your Pom Pom pin cushion too!
I love your scarf. It is so bright and colourful and I am sure very useful too. Maybe it will help keep the cats away from the pins.

I'm getting a chest massage as I'm responding to your post. My boy kitty is sitting on my chest and purring. He thinks that he has the privilege of sitting any where he desires. He has kind of gotten the idea he can't sit on the laptop keyboard or stand in front of the screen. Now, down to more important business. The chatelaine is wonderful. My quilting buddess and I have been wanting to make chatelaines for a few years and haven't done it yet. I love you the poms serve as a scissors holder. That is wonderful. And now you with new pockets and and an attached pin cushion, your life as a kitty mom can be a little easier. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial, for participating in the blog hop, and being a grea inspration.
Your chatelaine is really beautiful! Sweet pincushion too.
I love your chatelaine, what a great idea, I think it will be lovely for sewing outside.

LOL kitties---gotta love 'em. My husband constantly gives up the recliner to ours. Usually they share but if DJ gets up and out, then forget getting back in!
Well, I can see why Mdm. Samm had a hard time picking between your two projects. Beautiful work and great way to use that star block!
Love your ideas! Great pictures of the babies to!

lovely sash thanks for the chance to win your giveaway
That is lovely and so useful too. Great use of pom poms.
Butterfly looks like a great helper. ;)
What a good idea. Do you find the satin too slippery. I think it would be soft and supple to wear, but wonder about slipping. Beautiful critters as well. Love all the colors.
Beautiful chatelaine!!!
Love all the colors and additions!!!
Love your projects. I'm sitting here with Mr. Gus-Gus, one of our 3 felines as I read your blog. He's a gray tabby with a white tuxedo. He is enjoying the music. Not many blogs have a music accompaniment. "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is now playing. From California, thanks for the music and sharing.
HOW NEAT ARE YOUR PROJECTS!
THANKS FOR SHARING!

What a beautiful scarf. Loved all the adorable photos of your kitties. My cat loves to watch me sew also. If I leave any fabric laying around that is where she must sit/sleep.
Wow! Terrific scarf. Perfect for hand sewing projects in front of TV or waiting at the doctors office or other such places. Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win.
Love the chatelaine! Glad to see Katniss and Butterfly working so hard!
I love your helper. I had a cat like that once who loved to pull the pins out of the pincushion. Had to make sure to not leave them where she could find them. Love your scarf. Thanks for the chance to win.
You did a wonderful job on your projects. Love them.
That is so cool! Yet another thing on my to do list...lol! Thanks for the giveaway! vickise at gmail dot com
Hi!!! Love the pincushion and all your pom poms!!!
Very nice! Thanks for the giveaway!
wonderful project
I thought your scarf was just so pretty and then you kept adding more wonderful touches to it. Love the stitching and then it became so useful too. I enjoyed seeing your helpers, I often have to use another chair instead of my nice sewing chair too. Our kitty thinks that is her sewing chair although she doesn't do much sewing. She is very good at making my fabrics go in random order!
Beautiful scarf! You are so creative!! Thank you for sharing..
I had a great helper this morning while trying to finish hand binding a quilt, my grand daughter. She kept bringing me things to play with and trying to push up into my lap. What could I do, I put the quilt down and played with her. Thanks.
NIce finish with sew many intricate details for your chatelaine. Great project and colors used, thanks for sharing. Jane
