It's a Happy Block Day!

These are the first of many swap blocks that are arriving in my mailbox
in lovely squishie envelopes.

I posted about this  winner take all block lotto
 Here
and these were the blocks I made for the lucky winner of this months drawing.

Well guess what?

 I was the lucky winner!

Here are the cutting instructions I posted for making these 8.5" blocks.

I will be have about 30 blocks to make my quilt
This would give me a quilt about 45" by 54"
with no sashing or border.

I am thinking I would like a larger lap size quilt.

So I have decided on a setting that will add narrow white borders
and then an outer border to make a block variation
of this block ...

I have always wanted to make a Garden Fence Quilt.

This seems like the perfect time and use of my lovely

Here are the Happy Blocks that arrived today!

I have the start of a wonderful floral garden quilt

On My Design Wall ~ Girl + Quilt

 Girl + Quilt

A few days ago I saw one of the quilts in the making by

... and I had to make one!

The tutorial for the original quilt
can found  Here

This is a Valentine's Day quilt and it is a gift.
I wanted strawberries and chocolate, but did not have enough pink/brown
fat quarters and scrap fabrics in my stash.  So pink and yellow flowers will do.

My quilt is little girl sized at 52" by 60"
This one is made from 4.5" squares,
13 rows wide and 15 rows long,
195 total squares.

The layout key is to start with the + in the center
and work your way out.
This quilt top was fun and easy to make.

Katniss was very helpful when I was trying to decide which squares to include.
Sometimes she decided for me.
When I leave the room, I come back to find squares all over the floor.
Now if only I could teach the cat to use the machine.
Then my quilts would be done much faster.
Of course, then Katniss would want all the credit and I would have to rename my blog
"Life in the Catpatch."

Time for Katniss and I to quilt!

a $30 shopping spree donated by

I am sew happy!

It was a happy coincidence that I had bought the fabrics I used in my own
as a first time buyer from
as this shop had the pretty multicolored floral that is my favorite fabric in this line.
After it arrived I loved the fabric and service so much that I placed a second order for the  yellow and aqua tone-on-tones and black and yellow floral.

I had thought to purchase more fabric from the She Who Sews line as I would love to sew more with these but Shannon made some great suggestions about other items in her shop, including the sale fabrics.

When I saw these fabulous from Riley Blake Designs
on sale HERE it was love at first site.

For a cute Valentine's Day gift check out this

I know just what I am making with these fabrics.

My faithful readers will have to wait awhile, though, as these will be for a very special
Summer Quilt and will not be posted on my blog until summertime.

In the meantime I will be warm in my happy sewing place with these beautiful color flowing through my fingers.
