Scrappy Weekend Sewing

 

I have been cutting and sewing this scrappy project.

I am using my own method for making these Hourglass Units,

sometimes also called Quarter Square Triangles.

These are the first of many as you can see by stacks of cut pieces in the top photo.

This method requires little trimming to achieve these sets of hourglass blocks.

As this is a mystery 

and it is not my pattern,

and we have been asked not to post sizes and numbers of units by Bonnie Hunter,

I will not be sharing more of my how-to information at this time.

I am thinking to post a tutorial for a different project using this method 

in the coming weeks.

Grassy Creek Mystery ~ Decision Time Past Due

For the new Quiltville Mystery, I have decided on these fat quarter bundles,

first posted, with an alternate choice, two weeks ago Here. 

This is an older fabric line,  Summer Blush from Down Grapevine Lane,

that I have been wanting to make into a quilt. 

Now is the time!

Need to decide and get sewing! 

I am a week late getting the first clue sewn and am still dithering

on the rest of the fabrics needed to make the quilt.

 Here are my current choices: 

Choice #  1 ~ Scrappy 

... except for the white background fabric,

which is the Corey Yoder print in the bottom of the photo.

This is a closeup of the scrappy grays.

It is quite a  range in value, but so is Bonnie's picks. 

If I decide on scrappy, I may also just go for scrappy white, too. 

Choice # 2 ~   2 Fat Quarter Bundles plus these 3 prints. 

Choice # 3 ~ Alternate Gray ~  2 FQ Bundles plus 3

Mr Scrapatch has picked Choice # 3

I am leaning towards scrappy. 

Which would you choose?

Celtic Solstice Part 3 Done!

 

More Celtic Solstice Mystery pieces in the play!

 

This is still a mystery to me but it is fun playing with the units.

 

Sewing these did not take as long as the second part.

Finding time to get into the sewing room was off and on

as it was a busy weekend with my family.

 

 

 

At one point late at night I found Katniss sitting on my machine bed looking like she was sunning herself under my daylight lamp.

 

 

Katniss looked at the chain pieced string I left trailing out of my machine ... 

then looked at me as if saying, "Think maybe you should be doing something here?"

 

Katniss and I have completed the 100 half-square triangle and 25 pinwheels for Part 3!

 

 

We have also made some progress on my 4 Patch Leaders and Enders project.

Celtic Solstice Mystery ~ Part 2

Here is my project box.

 

I am slowly turning the small cutaway triangles into little pinwheel blocks for a doll quilt

or something in addition to the four patch blocks leaders and enders.

I needed to make 100 of these colorful chevron units 

for the smaller version on this quilt ... 

 

I am ready for the next pieces to the puzzle!

New Starts ~ Celtic Solstice ~ 4-Patch Scrap Quilt

Today I am linking up with all the lovely quilts in progress at the

Monday Mystery Link Up Party, Part 1

I really like the colors Bonnie chose.

I had the yummy fabrics in yardage pictured above.

I did not have enough scraps in the right colors.  

  

I do not buy fat quarters much anymore and most of my smaller stash scraps are earmarked for other projects in the works. 

At first I was feeling like I should use smaller cuts for a Bonnie Hunter pattern, so I searched my stash but I would have had to change to a different color scheme and nothing I put together appealed to me.  

So I finally started cutting from the yardage ...

... and ... 

... I decided to start a new leaders and enders project!

I am cutting some of my smallest scraps to make a 4-Patch Scrap Quilt.

I will need a few hundred of these to actually make a quilt so I decided to pair it with Kona Snow as I always have some of this in my stash. 

These are 1.5" squares. 

The small pieces at the top of my photo are my idea of fabric that is small enough to be actually discarded.

For cutting method for the mystery, I am using my well used Tri-Recs rulers.

I love my Tri-Recs.!

  Bonnie's method calls for chain piecing.

I love chain piecing!

Sew I sew ...

 ... and press ...

progress ... 

... and just keep sewing ...

Part 1 is done!

I am ready for Part 2 and it is not up yet.

I am hoping to keep up the pace.

I also have sixteen 2.5" Four Patch blocks.
