My Sew Sampler Subscription is Back!

 

My Sew Sampler Box for January has arrived!

I received my first box here ... 

Sew Sampler ~ My First Box ~ May 2017

and have been subscribed ever since.

Last year while my son-in-law was deployed I called Fat Quarter Shop and asked them to send my boxes to my daughter so she would have something to brighten her month.  

We also sent a monthly box of snacks and other goodies to our soldier via Amazon.

Now that he is home again, my box is coming once again to me. 

My daughter enjoyed receiving them so much she has her own subscription now.

The theme for this month's box is "Sweater Weather."

Very topical.

We wear sweaters indoors w=in January where I live.

We put heavy woolen coats and parkas over our sweaters when we venture outside.

Here are the goodies inside the weather cover.

The fabric line is

Cider by Basic Grey

I love the colors in this fabric line but have resisted purchasing.

So I am very happy with the Honey Bun fabric surprise this month.

The pattern is nice to and it has a throw size option.

I am happy to have this happy box arriving again each month.

Sew Sampler Sewing ~ March Box 2020

It was another rainy sewing day today.

We have snow in the forecast for tonight as the temperature dips.

I also washed floors and cleaned house today as I do every Monday.
I also started my spring closet reorganization,
putting away the warm fleece and taking out the t-shirts and capris.

These days, though, I seem more obsessive about sanitizing door knobs 

and locks and outside handles.

The pretty fabrics and colors soothed my quilty soul.

This one was sew lovely to work with.

The colors seem to glow on the background,

which appears gray but may have a touch of blue.

The photo does not do this fabric justice.

Nor does the one in the shops ...

Morning Seed Stitch from Homemade by Tula Pink

available at in the link at Fat Quarter Shop 

and other fine fabric shops. 

It is a big seller and keeps going in and out of stock.

This was a fun box to open.
I also bought the finishing kit this month.

Usually I do not but the finishing kits but I am glad I did because it had this

seed sprinkled fabric goodness in the finishing kit.

My quity kitties and I have been having fun with this one.

I have been a Sew Sampler box subscriber for three years 

and I love receiving this surprise package each month,

but April may be my last box.

I have so many of these kits that I have yet to sew

that I need to catch up and maybe sell or give away some of them.

Spring is a time to weed so new growth may occur.

Tonight is still a warm fleecey, quilty night, though.

Goodness Grows ~ Block #1 ~ Sew Sampler

This is Block #1 of the 

FQS Sew Sampler Goodness Grows Mystery Quilt

Here are the pieces for my block.

I bought the kit fabrics because I love Corey Yoder's fabrics and patterns.

I did make a change.

Block pieces A - 2 are my own variation.

I wanted to accent the star formed by the diamond blocks around the center square

so I added a favorite yellow Corey Yoder fabric from my stash. 

Receiving this big beautiful kit box was like my birthday came early.

This is actually an early birthday present that I will enjoy all year.

The Aurifil thread pack was an add on.

Hints are that there are some applique blocks this year so

I opted to get the thread pack, too, as these colors are lighter 

than most of my Aurifil threads.

Opening the kit box was even better.

It is sew nice to open and untie the carefully wrapped bundles

of these beautiful fabrics.

This block is 15.5 unfinished and was easy to sew.

I opted to do my usual cutting corners method

rather than drawing lines as stated in the instructions.

Nutmeg was very helpful today in all aspects of the making of this block.

There are quite a few HSTs made from the cut aways.

Nutmeg and I need to figure out how best to use them.

This block has the Nutmeg "Paw of Approval."

Looking forward to next month's block already!

The Eyes Have It

The eyes in this  Pinkerville By Tula Pink fabric

are sew realistic.

This kind of artistic talent always amazes me 

because I do not have the skills to draw.  

I dabbled in oil painting once when I was much younger 

but could not make the paints show what I was seeing.

My quilty muse has helped me to see quilts before I sew them

and sewing a straight line has helped me 

reproduce a reasonable image.

Sew fabric is my medium and quilting is my creative outlet.

My Pinkerville quilt is mostly still in my head

but I am making progress.

This quilt was   Started Here.

It is for a reveal next month 

so I cannot show much more yet.

My Riley Blake 12" Tailor's Clapper has been

helpful pressing down the seams of this one.

I only recently started using a clapper and it does help reduce

use of my iron,

which means there is less chance to distort the fabric.

I have been looking for ways to improve my skills

and make my blocks flat and the correct size.

Another helpful tool for this is this

Alex Anderson 4 in 1 Essential Tool

This works wonders to press seams with 

crisp clean ;ones that leave no fabric in the seams.

My blocks have had less distortion and more true to size

since I started using this when finger pressing.

I received this in my

Sew Sampler Monthly Subscription Box

in February and it has been in constant use since then.

It is not something I ever would likely have purchased.

I have received more than a few such items over the past two years 

I have been receiving these surprise packages.

Originally it was a gift subscription,

but now I renew it every year

because I love surprise packages

full of quilty goodies. 

Many others do, too, which is why there is now a waiting list.

April is the start of a new year of Sew Sampler boxes

which means a new yearly BOM pattern is staring.

I cannot show more yet.

Many of you many still be waiting for your boxes to arrive

and I do not want to spoil the surprise.

It has been rainy and foggy and damp here again

with some breaks in the clouds.

Hoping for some sunshine today.

July Surprises

July has brought many surprises,

like this wonderful "Vintage Chic"

Now who can this be? 

As you know,

My Butterfly

crossed the rainbow bridge in March.

Not a day goes by I do not think of her.

We have all have been very sad.

Although I will always miss her,

it was time to find a new kitty to love.

So my hubby and I went to the 

Salem Animal Rescue League

in nearby Salem, NH,

where there were many pretty kitties to play with ... 

and this little cutie,

just three months old,

who conducted her way right into my hubby's arms

and our hearts.

We could not leave without this baby kitty.

Meet The Maestro!

Maestro is dressed to the nines in a black tuxedo and white cravat.

Maestro settled in right away in her new home

and is very busy 

learning to be a quilty kitty.

Maestro is a natural when it comes to 

inspection and testing.

How does The Katniss feel about her new buddy?

Katniss is very purry and happy and playful again.

Maestro is very cuddly and her

favorite place to sleep is curled up against my arm

in the same spot that Butterfly always slept for so many years.

It is a little uncanny how many expressions, mannerisms, habits and haunts
that were always Butterfly's own
that Maestro has adopted.

I know Butterfly is smiling.

So am I.

Hello, May Box!

I really enjoy slowly opening and unpacking

all the lovely surprises

in this cute little box. 

A box full of quilty happiness!

That lovely little  bundle of color is

Blueberry Park Fat Eighth Bundle

The pattern is just right for this bundle.

All I need to add is background fabric to create the flimsy.

It even includes the  small specialty ruler to help sew the blocks.

I love it!!

Looking forward to next month's box already.
