Making Fabric Maple Leaves ~ Part #1

The leaves are falling outside and inside these fabric leaf shapes

have fallen onto my cutting table.

Maestro is my Quilty Kitty Supervisor for this project.

These are the cuts for our first leaf.

I am using up pieces of scrap batting for this project.

I am also using up this stash of leaf fabrics, posted

 HERE in September.

I have sewn fabric leaves and a similar method in the past when I

Made Maple Leaf Coasters Here

For easier reference, I have made new post with the

Maple Leaf Mug Rugs ~ Revisted Here

These new, larger leaves are larger and for a new project idea.

More leaves falling on my sewing machine table soon!

Maple Leaf Mug Rugs ~ Revisited

Maple Leaf Mug Rugs!

Fall is falling!

I love everything about fall.

Fall fabrics and colors are my favorites.

I found how to make these mug rugs when I spent some time
in the beautiful Green Mountains in Vermont.
a lovely shop tucked on a side street in this picturesque town center,
they had some pretty maple leaf shaped mug rugs.

Since these leaf mug rugs were made in 2014,
my sweet Butterfly was there to help me.

<3 RIP ~ Butterfly <3

Sew I was off and sewing my own maple leaf mug rugs.

Katniss helped.

For the first one I followed the pictorial from the Quilting Board.
It makes a beautifully shaped leaf.

Sew.

Batting Side.

Trim.

Cut to shape.

Turn right side out and smooth points to shape.

By the second one I was sewing without the paper.

I cut to size, sandwiched and then sewed.

Works for me!

I did not use the paper pattern for quilting either.

Also, I found the "v" at the bottom a little too tricky for me.

These are very pretty and coaster size.

Then I decided to simplify the pattern and make it a little larger.

I drew and cut my own pattern.

Feel free to print for your own use.

Edit: I have updated and added a Google Doc version of this template.

Scrappy Saturday ~ Fabric Play ~ Simple Mug Rug

I like to "rug a mug" with my scraps.

I had these these little cutoff triangles from a recent project
and rather than throw them away or collect even more of them in my scrap boxes,
I like to take them a play with them and sew something useful.

So I sewed then together and picked a scrap of the focus fabric
to make something large enough for a coaster or a mug rug.

Then I found a scrap of batting  and cut an oversized backing piece
from a scrap piece of fat quarter.
I cut it oversize to make a "self-binding" to keep this project quick and easy.

Ready to quilt.

My heavy duty walking foot was still attached to my machine from finishing
the main project made with these fabrics so this entire project
was sewn with my accu-feed foot on my Janome 6600P.

I quilted simple and easy, straight line stitch-in-the-ditch.

For binding, I simply folded the backing fabric twice and machine
stitched it to the front.

I fold a mitered corner and stitch each side separately,
inserting my needle down into the inside corner of my miter
to start stitching.

This makes neat corners and a pretty edge.

I do not stress if a corner is not perfect.
This is a mug rug that will be spilled on and washed many times.

I really like to make mug rugs with my scraps.

It gives me a pretty accent to put on a side table or nightstand
to match my quilts.

My "snoopervisor" for this project was Ms Katniss,
who likes to peek through the handle in the side of the baskets
set on high on top of the bookshelf.

May you have a Happy Scrappy Saturday!

Appli-Play!

I am calling this "Appli-Play."

For a quilter who was once wrote many times that I was afraid of applique,

I have come a long way.

Tutorial Coming Soon ... :-)

I am playing with these fabrics today.

This is Petals and Pots by Riley Blake Designs

I am also playing with the small cut off pieces.

I have a sample project done that I hope to be sharing next week.

This pretty fabric is making a gloomy gray day bright and happy.

May your sewing place be bright and happy today.

I Like Thursday # 67 ~ Sharing is Caring

Good Morning, Pumpkin!

I like my morning latte with frothed steamed milk.

It is time to give thanks and enjoy all the thankful posts from my friends for

I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

who once a week choose to find and share happiness.

My list is bright and happy and colorful this week

I like that my fall mums are blooming.

I like the scents of fall,
like this sourdough pizza crust pre-baking in the oven.

The sauce is homemade, too.
Yummy!

I like cats in high places.
Here is Maestro in the basket on top of our living room bookcase.

  I love my family.
I like that even though we can not always be together,
my daughter shares photos of her day with me.
Here is Everly,
hiding in her bean bag chair under her favorite quilt,
because it is time for bed.

I like family football "watch parties."
I do not care so much about the winning and loosing thing.
It is sharing life together that matters.
This is my oldest son's apartment living room.
Since he has been working at home a lot,
this is also his workspace.
I like that he has made it a warm and happy place.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing my day!

May you and yours have a Happy Thursday!

Edit 10/1/20 9:05am:

I like small surprise boxes of fabric and fun.

This once a year box just became available.

It will sell out quickly.

If you want one ...

Edit: 10/2/20 9:30am:

I got my order in!

Woo-Hoo!
