I Like Thursday # 127 ~ More of the Same

Today is the day I review what has made me smile this week with my friends at

I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

Most of what I have to show will look like "more of the same" that you see every week.  This week there has been ...

more snow ...

Yesterday afternoon it started to snow again and this is what we had three hours later.  In the end we had at least four inches.

It was a good day for ... more soup ...

Homemade Tomato Soup

I love tomato soup but the canned stuff which relies too heavily on salt for flavor does not appeal to me anymore. So I decided to make my own.

I started with this recipe for

3 Ingredient Tomato Soup @ Inspired Taste

I gathered what I had on hand to start my soup.

I like Pomi tomatoes the best for soups and sauces.

I use low-salt broth.  This Imagine veggie broth is golden, flavorful and delicious and saved me chopping up celery and carrots and other veggies to flavor my broth. I do make my own veggie broth with the scraps and peels but I did not always have any in my fridge right so I keep this on hand, too. Veggie broth goes into most of my sauces and soups and slow cooker meals and I even use it for saute. I did add a little salt and freshly ground pepper, too.  Basil is my favorite tomato soup garnish so I knew that was going in my soup.

I finely diced the onion and 3 big garlic cloves and sauted them in olive oil.

After the onion and garlic was soft, added the strained tomatoes and a cup and a half of veggie broth an brought to a simmer.

When it was simmering, I tasted and it needed more seasoning. Seasoning to taste in my case was adding oregano, parsley, a teaspoon of onion powder and a teaspoon of garlic powder, ore fresh ground pepper ... and ...

The bay leaves will be removed but I did not use my immersion blender to puree my soup.  I like those bits of onion and herbs.

Since this is not my mother's tomato soup, I also added a splash of red cooking wine and of Balsamic Vinegar. Just before serving I stirred in some grated cheese and then sprinkled the top with some shredded parmesan.

Served with my homemade garlic bread, this was delicious!

More kitty love ...

In the evening, Nutmeg snuggled in on my lap under a fleece blanket and we did

more cable crochet ...

While I crocheted I found

more patterns I want to crochet,

like this video for a

My friend LeeAnna @ Not Afraid of Color

sent me the link for this. Thanks, LeeAnna!

I have since found many crochet baskets that I want to make

More of the same is a good thing.

Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 10

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ 2022 ~ Week 10

I am Nutmeg and I have been helping Mommy with her quilting and blogging.

Here I am copying and pasting the code for today's linky party.

I am very competent computer cat.

Usually I work the scenes for treats and petting breaks. This week I have taking over Mommy's blog so she can have more time to take care of the kitties.

Shhhhh ... don't tell Mommy but I will be ordering more cats treats and toys

while she isn't looking.  Meows the word!

This week, Mommy and I received the third monthly kit for our

Christmas Candy Striped Afghan ~ Started Here

The yarn in this kit is really soft and cuddly, but Mommy says there is an issue with the dye lots.  So lets take a closer look.

The kits arrive with three new balls of yarn each month and we have a bag of leftover yarn from the first two months.

Mommy says she expected  that she would not have to think about all the yarn in this project being from the same dye lot because it is being put together by pattern and kit makers. But last month when she started the new ball of Snow White included in the kit for the 6th row, she noticed a difference in the color.

Mommy says you can see it better here

because we put a sheet of white paper under the white stripe.

Can you see that the last two rows are a more creamy white than the first three rows?

Mommy is thinking of pulling out all the rows in this sixth stripe and using the creamy ball of yarn. She says she can then use the small ball of leftover white from the first skein to use as the "small amount of snow white" needed for Stripe 8 and it will not be so noticeable.

Mommy and I are wondering:

What would you do?

Thank you for visiting us and joining in our linky party fun!

Nutmeg Crochets ~ Cable Block 2

Hello, Crochet Fans!

Thank you for your kind words on my first post.
They make me feel all purrrrrrrrry inside.

Mommy and I have started the second block of the

Mommy said the second block is progressing well because her fingers
remember the pattern count from the repeats in the first block.

Mommy set her project on her chair when she went do something
so I jumped right in to help.

M-eow-ore tomorrow.

Nutmeg Crochets

Hello, I am Nutmeg.  I am Mommy's best little crochet helper.

Mommy has been busy and I have been helping her crochet.

My favorite thing is to snip her yarn for her with my sharp teeth as it

winds off those lovely yarn ball toys.

This block looks like it is done and is time to snip the yarn for her.

Mommy was tired last night after she finished our Block 17,

so I decided to update her blog for her so she could sleep.

Here is the back of the block.

Mommy did a good job.

This block feels nice and cozy.

Mommy says she has to press her blocks and I am helping.

Then Mommy put it on her blocking board.

Mommy will not let me help with the pins.

Mommy will not let me sit on the block in the middle of the pins.

The board is foam and it is soft and squishy.

I thought it was a new scratching board for the kitty.

Mommy has lots of rules for the kitties.

I love Mommy, though, she pets me and feeds me

and gives me nice places to sit while we work.

Mommy, it is time to make another block.

I will help!

Slow Stitching Sunday ~ Cable Crochet

Sunday's  Slow Progress

Slow Stitching my Cable Crochet Block

Slow Painting the bedroom walls.

Here is a sneak peek at the new color on the walls.

Mr. Scrapatch has done most of the painting for me.

I am finding the silver gray quite restful of my eyes.

I have the twist for the cables figured out for the

Pattern 9 ~ Cable Stitch Square @ The Inspired Wren

It is actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.

The trick for me is keeping a good count of my stitches and rows.

I have four twists done on my block.

This is the front of the two-sided block.

There are two cables on the back.

I am happy with this slow and steady progress.

Linking up today with

I hope your weekend has been a happy one.
