Buying By The Bolt

This is

Bella Solids Bleached White #9900-98

which is one of my preferred background whites.

Usually I have plenty of this in my stash,

but I was down to my last yard and it is in four projects

that I am working on at the moment.

So it was time to buy more.

So I bought a 15 yard bolt.

It came packaged in plastic, pristine and uncut.

I know this sounds at first like an extravagance, but hear me out.

 I bought this at

Fat Quarter Shop

my favorite online shop,

where Bella Solids are regularly $6.99 per yard,

However, when you buy 15 yards of any regular priced fabric,

you can get a 20% "By the Bolt" discount.

So my fabric was $5.39 per yard and I saved over $20,

So yes, it was a large purchase upfront but I will use it up.

There is not a discount code for this.

When you order, the customer service person who prepares the order will automatically deduct the 20% and adjust your order total.

I do always put in a note on my order, asking for the bolt discount.

You can also call their Tool Free number 1-866-826-2069

to order, if you feel better talking with a human about this.

If you are wondering what white to buy,

Learn More About Bella Whites Here @FQS

I like Porcelain for a creamy off white.

So that is the long and short story about the fabric that arrived today.

I also tossed an Alison Glass Cross Stitch Charm Pack

into my cart that was in the daily flash sale.

My mail was happy today!

May all your mail be squishy and happy.

Thank You !

Experimenting ~ Bella Solids ~ My Favorite Color is Moda

I have recently bought the
My Favorite Color Panel and Yardage
that I blogged about Here
because I loved the fabric.

I decided it would be fun and informational to experiment and do a color comparison with the panel, yardage and my Bella Solids Color Chart.

Here is a comparison between the panel and my chart
for one of my favorite colors, Fresh Green.
It is almost spot on.

Here is another panel and chart comparison and favorite, Tangarine.
This one looks very, very close.

Summer Sky is slightly different, but close enough.
Again, this is the large panel and my color chart.

Here is a color comparison with the yardage for Petunia.
I do love this color petunia.

The yardage and chart color comparison is near perfect for this one.

All of these photos were taken inside my house
with bright early morning sun shining in my frosty windows
and my inside lights turned on.

Conclusion:
The panel and yardage may be used
 instead of the color chart
to match colors with other fabrics.

All these items are on sale in February at

Bella Solids Basic of the Month @ Fat Quarter Shop

If you shop via the links in this post or on the link at the top of my side bar,

I will receive a small percentage on the sale at no additional cost to you

as I am a Fat Quarter Shop small blogger affiliate.

Thanks to all who help support my fabric habit ... :)

Perfect 5 ~ Week 5 ~ Perfect Time

Time to start my Perfect 5 SAL Sampler Quilt.
It is week 5.
Perfect timing!

This project has the "Paw of Approval"

This Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along actually started 5 weeks ago ...

Perfect 5 Quilts Book
"It's Sew Emma" , the pattern design team at  Fat Quarter Shop
created a companion book with 16 different block patterns
using charm packs for this ruler

They also sell a combo if you want to purchase the book and ruler together.

Perfect 5 Book and Ruler Combo Here

As with all things, the FQS is very thorough and have a

Perfect 5 Ruler ~ How to Use Video ~ Fat Quarter Shop

I bought the ruler when it first came out because I like new quilt rulers.

Then I bought the book because some of the blocks look like sew much fun.

Then they announced the sampler QAL and I started looking at fabric.

Problem is I decided I really had to have this perfect fabric ...

Scarlet and Sage By Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics
but it was not available for purchase until this month.
Sew I am starting late and playing catch-up.

Scarlet and Sage Layer Cake
because the fabric requirements for the sampler quilt calls for four charm packs.

This is my favorite print in the line and it is perfect with the warm yellow Bella Solid background fabric I chose ...

Bella Solid "Afternoon"

I love this warm sunny color.
It is the color of the harvest sun shining in late afternoon.
It is very close to the yellow paint on my bedroom walls.
I love it ... :-)

My yellow fabric looks dull tan in the shadowy lights of evening.
This is how I fold and store my long yardage.
I smooth it out and wind it loosely around my 24" ruler.

Then I unwind it as I go.

How do you fold and store your long yardage pieces?
Do you have a good system?
I am always looking for new ideas.

The Perfect 5 ruler is a good size for cutting charms.
In truth, you could use any ruler to make these cuts,
but I am a gadget girl.
So I am enjoying playing with my new ruler.

I am piecing the first blocks.
  Hubby is working.

My quilty kitties and I will be sewing late tonight.

May you have a happy quilty night <3

Sneak Peek ~ New Project!

I love my Bella Solids Color Chart.

When I needed to decide on a solid to coordinate with
my Fragile by Zen Chic Mini Charm Project,

I reached for my color chart.

I find this an essential tool when designing and deciding
on colors and fabrics.

There are touches of a lovely blue turquoise in the

fabric line.

I was looking for a solid to bring out this color,
so I opened to the blues and turquoise page
on my handy Bella Solids Color Chart
and looked for the perfect match.

There were several possibilites,
Surf, Capri, Bright Turquoise,
and even Pastel Blue if I wanted to tone it down.

My son the engineer was walking by so I asked him which color he liked best.
He looked them over and pointed out the Bright Turquoise has the same color intensity
of the golden yellow in the Fragile line.
My Matty has a great eye for design and color.
I agreed.

So Bright Turquoise it is!

I am loving sewing with these fabrics!

I am looking forward to showing off this project,
but it shall have to wait.

This is for another great

Maestro, the ever present quilty kitty helper,
says she is on guard to make sure there is no more peeking.

:) Soon! :)

How do you decide what solids to use in a new project?

Do you use a color chart?

I am always interested in sharing quilting tips.

:-)
