Here is my Moda Blockheads 5 ~ Bright Star Block

The light and breeze coming in my window today is from the off-shore hurricane in the Atlantic.  Current forecast modules show it staying far enough out to sea from the New England coast that we will only get some rain and light winds tonight and tomorrow.  May all in the path of the storm stay safe and well.

I looked at all the half square triangles in this block 

and decided I was going to cut and piece it differently.  

I knew what I wanted to do.  

Before I had time to figure it all out,

 I fortunately saw the someone else had done all the work for me ... 

I used the simplified cutting and sewing instructions posted by

Here are the Dawn on the Prairie fabrics from

that I chose for my block.

Here are the pieces to the puzzle.

I used my preferred method of cutting my 1/4 inch seams

before I sewed my flying geese and flip and sew rectangles.

I pressed my seams to nest and sewed.

Not perfect, but I am very happy with my block.

Strawberries & Rhubarb ~ Designer Mystery BOM 2021

This is Block 1 for the 

Fat Quarter Shop Designer Mystery 2021

I do not usually participate in these Block of the Month Programs,

but this year the colors tempted me.

I canceled my Sew Sampler Box subscription and subscribed to this BOM.

The  fabric line is 

Strawberries & Rhubarb By Fig Tree Quilts

and only the green, pink, coral, red and white fabrics are included in the blocks.

I love these colors.

The blocks are challenging.

This block is called "Madeleine."

There are 57 pieces in this 12.5" unfinished block.

It took me most of the day to cut and sew this block while the tropical storm deluged outside my windows.

Then I found I had turned a piece after I thought I was pressed and done.

My trusty seam ripper and I made quick work correcting that mistake.

I cut new pieces because there is always plenty of fabric in these FQS block kits to allow for a mistake or two. I will save the rest of the leftover fabric for future blocks or to make a pillow or something.

I am happy with how this block worked up.

I am subscribed only to the monthly blocks. I did not purchase the finishing kit for the quilt because I want to choose a different layout. 

Looking forward to next month's block kit, which I read may be delayed.

That is okay.

I do not mind waiting.

 So far I have only opened the box and "oohed" and "ahhed" over the fabrics.

My Fabric Clock Needs a Reset

When it is the first of July

 and it is hot, hot, hot ...

or the thunder is rolling and skies flashing ...

and all I want is a cool drink of water ...

and a cozy spot in the shade

... But ...

I see a fabric collection for

  Halloween

that I just have to sew 

and it is disappearing off the shelves of all the shops on the internet

 ... what do I do?

Buy Fall Fabric! 

... before

it goes poof like 

the 4th of July fireworks.

Find some soon or you will feel haunted by ghosts of

fabrics lost this Halloween.

I have more of this fabric on the way.

You will be seeing a lot of this fabric on my blog.

I am haunting the mailman for the 4th of July.

Best if I offer him some nice cold water when it is 90 degrees in the shade to

keep the fabric coming! 

Stitchin' Sisters Round Robin Update

My border on this gorgeous Round Robin is done!

I think every round robin I work on becomes my favorite, 

but this one really is my favorite!

I love fall color and fabrics!

This one was a bit of a challenge.

Not the piecing ... that actually went quite smoothly once I found the right fabrics.

The toughest part was finding the right blue fabric.

My quilty muse and I decided that this quilt really needed a nice calming blue sky 

to give the eye some rest for all the beautiful jewel tone fall colors. 

I think I tried every piece of  blue yardage fabric in my stash.

 I finally found the "right" blue is a stack of fabrics that I have had for years
and have been saving for a special project.

Urban Indigo by Fig Tree Quilts

Joanna Figueroa designed this line is 2007.  

I bought some ... wish I had bought more.

I have been saving these fabrics and have finally decided that they should become a 

Swoon Quilt ... just for me, because these are my favorite fabrics.

If anyone ever sees any of this blue or the darker denim blue fabirc anywhere, 

please think of me and let me know where to get more!

I fussy cut around some of the scraps from the focus fabric enclosed with the top.

All the other fabrics are from my stash.

 Here are more of the scraped together birds and the detailsof the border stripe fabric 

that I used to frame the top and bottom.

This top is now rectangular.

It is the first time I have ever sent a RR along that was not square.

I asked the experienced quilter who will have this one next if that would be okay

 before I sewed on the top and bottom.

I am sure Cherie is up for the challenge.

Looking forward to seeing the last two borders on this beauty. 

Tricia will be getting this one home just in time for the fall season.
