Quilting

Quilting ... quilting ... quilting ...

When I take a computer break I find more projects I would like to sew.

Like this free block challenge from Riley Blake Designs ...

I have sew many projects in the works,

I really should not even think about adding any more.

I shall have fun following along and saving the patterns.

Back to quilting ...

Quilting, Quilting, Quilting ...

I am quilting.

My hubby picked a bright variegated thread for

I picked an easy to do edge to edge, free motion pattern that complimented the fabric.

Late at night,  I picked a blue swirl 108" wide fabric for the backing and cut and loaded it ...

Oh, No!

This is wrong.  it should be under the other bar in the back.

Rather than take out all those pins,

I took out the back bar, loosened the backing and set the bar back where it belonged
on the top of the backing fabric.

That was and easy fix ... :-)

In the morning I loaded the quilt top,
under Katniss's supervision.

This large quilt stretches from side to side across the width of my 8 foot frame.

Quilts on my machine will not get bigger than this.

I am liking this motif and the quilting is going well.

I posted this on Facebook with the header,
"Quilting, Quilting, Quilting"
and got the laugh of the day with a comment from my friend
Colette @ What About Rheema?
that this made her think of the "Rawhide" theme song.
"Rolling, Rolling, Rolling"
and now every time I quilt I am going to hear this playing over and over in my head ...

"Rolling, Rolling, Rolling ... Rawhide!"

Lol!  :-)

Have a happy Sunday!

It is Snowing!

It is snowing!

The view from my back window.

Earlier, the birds were on the feeders that are here filled with snow now.

This is a very wet heavy snow and you can see a long branch from our tallest white pine
down on the ground in this photo.
Fortunately, it did not do any damage.
It missed the metal frame from which our garden swing hangs in the summer.
We take the swing in for the winter
but the frame is too big and is secured in the ground.
Hopefully,  no more branches will fall.

This is not a big storm for where I live but the schools and many businesses are closed.

The indomitable snow man went out to clear the steps, shake the snow off the feeders.

You can see the birds on the roof behind him on their way back to the feeders.

Here you can see them peeping out of the bushes waiting for me
and my camera to let them eat in peace.

This is the only kind of "snow man" that will be in my yard today.

The birds came in flocks as soon we went inside.

I am adding snow to my snowman quilting.

My snowmen are happy.

It is a good day to stay in and quilt.

Hope to have this quilt done today.

May you stay safe and warm, quilty and happy wherever you are.

Quilting ... quilting ... quilting ...

The wandering giraffes are quilted.

The star blocks and sashing is done.

Butterfly has been very helpful.

Each giraffe is different.
At this point, I have named them all.
This is Specks.

The Paw is stalking Specks.

The Cat is saying,
"You are not planning to quilt this right now, are you?  Think again."

Detail of the border quilting on the backing.

Marking the corner with pins for quilting.

Corner quilting.

The Cat prefers fresh quilts for napping.

I am really going to have to "de-fur" this baby quilt before I send it home.

Despite the frequent cat naps, I have the center of the quilt done and two borders and one corner. I need to get this in the mail by Saturday so the baby grandma may deliver it for Mother's Day.

Good kitty!
Butterfly is napping on the old utility quilt in the window.

Butterfly is enjoying the fun at

Feline Friday

where quilty kitties love to party.

Time to get-r-done!

Progress

I am progressing on my WIP.

On my home machine, my favorite way to quilt is to do straight line quilting. I really like the way it looks.  My Janome has a good feed system for this and I can go with the flow. It does require a considerable amount of twisting and turning and readjusting my quilt which results in the need for me to give my back and hands and eyes frequent breaks. This quilt is a large size baby quilt and will finish at 60" square, so it will take me several days.  I am also up late most nights until my back finally says enough.   I do enjoy the quilting process as long as I keep to my little bits at a time system.

Last night I ran out of thread on my 2000 yard King Tut White spool. It is the first time I have ever used up one of these big spools at home. I have had it for a couple of years and used it on several quilts. I do not have another.  I buy these only once or twice a year at quilt shows where I get a good deal.

I dug through my stuff and came up with a 1200 yard spool of Coats and Clark 30 weight white cotton thread that is a good match.  I cannot tell the difference.  So I am up and quilting again.

Today on my computer breaks I am linking up again with

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

at Freshly Pieced which is being guest hosted today by
So I have found a lovely new blog to follow. There are some pretty inspirations going on today, so stop by and enjoy the eye candy.
I am off and quilting again ...

Have a happy quilty day!
