On My Design Wall Monday Today

On my Design Wall today.

This is my Stay-At-Home-Round-Robin,

which I last worked on Here in February

when I was actually caught up with the sew-along.

Then I worked finishing on a blog hop project and was distracted by other projects

and the SAHRR ended without me two weeks ago.

It is all good, though, as I will finish this in my own time.

In truth, the checkerboard challenge week proved puzzling to my quilty muse

and I sewed more than a few units that I set aside

before I decided to combine the checkerboard (four patch units)

 with the wonky star border ...

... to make this 6.5" streaming star block.

I have also been playing with the corners to extend the knot and chain units.

This is the orphan block that I chose when I started my SAHRR Here.

This block was my Blockheads 3 Week 1 Star Chain Block.

I hope to fill in the open spaces filled

and have my borders sewed on by the end of the day.

Then I may have to let this project wait.

I do have a tentative plan for the last two borders.

It is a sunny, cold and blustery Monday here in my quilty corner.

When I got up this morning, it was -4 degrees F ... brrrrr!

A good day to stay in and sew.

Right now I am pondering whether the double knot units in the corner

are too much or if I should make the outer unit a chain.

Hmmmmm ?

What think you?

By Jove

 "I Think I've Got It!"

Wonky Stars and Four Patches!

Yellow and Gray ... two of my favorite colors!

I have been stuck here on my ...

Last Border ~ # 3 ~ Flying Geese

for twenty days and twenty nights.

 Three weeks behind and the last border to be announce on Monday.

This was in part due to prioritizing my Stripes Blog Hop Quilt

and, quite frankly, the "Checkerboard" border unexpectedly gave me trouble.

Not the sewing, of course, as a checkerboard is one of the easiest units to sew.

Size of units, color or units, placement of units all frustrated me.

I have and sewn a set aside many pieces

 and will probably use them for one or more pillow covers.

Finally, I put it on my design wall and stared at it

and fidgeted with it

long enough that my creative quilty muse took pity.

Now, I am happily sewing!

Interesting Reading Find of the Day:

Flat Felled Seams

I read this on

The Creative Blog @ Art Gallery Fabrics

Have you heard of this?

Have you tried this technique?

I would love to learn more about this.

I may try it on woven or Essex Linen which have a greater tendency to ravel.

~~~
I have been trying not to see the border choice for this week
so I can keep the mystery element of the challenge as intact as possible.
So if you do not see me on your blogs or IG feeds, you will know why.
May you have a happy, quilty weekend!
SAHRR ~ Week 3 ~ Flying Geese
My  Week 3 Border is done for the
SAHRR 2021
For Week 3 @ Anja Quilts
the challenge was to add a "Flying Geese" border.
I played around with my fabrics for awhile and sewed a few geese
before I figured out what my quilty muse was calling for this border.
I made the middle side units first and then studied it to decide on the corners.
I finally determined that the plus signs in the second border
could be closed in the third border.
These little squares are the result.
I really like this detail.
It adds a bit  of "Celtic Knot" to the quilt.
I like this so much I may look to add more of this design element in future borders.
Here is a close up of the side details and fabrics.
The fabrics are mostly Dandi Annie by Robin Pickens
and other pieces from my stash.
I am really happy with how this round robin is growing
and am planning to make a bed size quilt.
I used the gray bird print to turn down the volume a bit
and make the corner knots stand out.
Next week I think my border may again be bold and bright.
Time will tell.
Looking forward to Week 4 on Monday.
The Geese Are Ready to Fly
Since Monday, I have been working on the Week 3 border for my
SAHRR
There has been a lot of playing with the fabrics and sewing flying geese units.
There has been a few twists and turns in the design part
and my seam ripper has gotten quite a workout.
At last, I think I have got it.
The borders are sewn and tomorrow I will be adding them to my Round Robin.
~~~

Mr. Scrapatches' eye surgery went well and he is healing quickly.

It has been nice having him home this week.

On Monday he will be returning to work.

 My eyes are tired and it is time to call it a night.

May you have a happy quilty weekend.

Little Questions ~ Big Questions

Time for this week's border for the

Week # 3 @ Anja Quilts

This week the challenge is geese.

This one is proving a bit of a challenge for me.

Not the sewing part.

I have my tried and true method for flying geese.

I like to cut corners and chain piece.

~

The challenge is the layout.

How much background fabric in this border?

Colors?

Size of Geese?

Cornerstones or not?

These are The Little Questions.

~

Hmmmmm ... shall have to hope my quilting muse speaks.

~

More geese  later ... hopefully ... coming soon.

~

I may be a bit distracted by the white stuff floating down outside my window

and preoccupied by ...

The Big Question:

How Much Will Pile Up?

There have been estimates of almost two feet locally.

Fortunately, the business where Mr Scrapatch works closed early,

so I do not have to think about him being out there stuck in it.

Wind picking up.

Trying not to think about possible power outage.

Hmmm ...

I need to think about the little questions,

the ones I can decide.

~

What are you working on?

May you and yours be safe and warm and happy and healthy.
