I Love Mystery Quilt Weekends!

A new quilt in the making!

I was not going to take on any new projects between now and Christmas.

Then my friend  Jess  at  The Quilt and Needle
asked me if I had time to test her cutting instructions for the upcoming

I love her mystery quilts so how could I resist?

I am making the crib size quilt.

This pattern may be made from crib to king.

This quilt is quick and easy.

I may have this done in time to give my Grand-darling before she flys away home!

Looking forward to seeing all the quilts!

My Quilty Muse Frolics

My Quilt Muse has spoken.

My Hannah fabrics made themselves at home in my quilty corner and found some pretty Posh friends.

Here are my final choice of fabrics that I am sewing into my
Pattern Available HERE

It is still a mystery pattern right now, but I have looked at the final installment this morning.
I like mystery quilts ... sometimes.

I also like planned quilts and to listen to my own quilty muse.
My quilty muse said "look before you sew this time."
So I listened and I am very happy I did.

I would have loved the quilt if I had sewed it just as it was kitted as a mystery.
But I am going to love it even more now for having looked before I sewed.

I am making this as a new bed quilt for me and have splurged on fabric and I went spelunking through my stash closet to find the right two coral tone-on-tone fabrics
that my quilty muse wants to see in this finished quilt.
Since this is a mystery I will not be posting pictures here on my blog until the whole pattern is released.  You can see pictures of the beautiful quilts in progress
... (including my blocks) ...
on the

Some of these quilts have the same kit fabrics as my quilt will have,
without the addition of the corals.
They are all looking gorgeous!

I love this pattern.
Thank you, Jess, for this  fun frolic through the fabrics!

Since this is a new queen size custom bed quilt for me,
it is my primary goal in this "sewing for me" project.
I have so many other projects and commitments that it will take me some time until I have it finished but I plan to work on this 30 minutes a day.
I hope to have the top pieced by the end of the month.

... just keep sewing ...

Think Spring!

Oh My Stars!

Oh My Stars!
Pattern from the Quilt & Needle
I started this as a mystery quilt that has now been released
as a whole quilt pattern HERE.

I love these fabrics in this pattern and I want to make it larger by adding custom borders so that I may use it as a fall bed quilt.

I am going to leave this top as is on my design wall while I am waiting for my quilty muse to tell me about the borders this quilt wants.

I ran out of the background fabric. I do have enough of the other fabrics to make a queen size quilt.  I love the background fabric so much, though, that I did a search online and found an end of bolt on clearance in a web quilt shop.  The fabric is in the mail!

I have a small quilt that needs quilting for an upcoming blog hop. so I am going to set up my machine for quilting.

Have a happy quilty day!

A New Mystery!

It is the Fall Mystery Weekend
@

Pattern available Here

As usual I am trying to decide on fabrics.

Color Choice 1
Aqua/Yellow/Gray

These aqua/yellow/gray fabrics are all from Hobby Lobby and are recent fabric acquisitions.  My Hubby and I just returned from a spontaneous road trip.  There is now a Hobby Lobby about forty-five minutes from me, but it does not seem to be as well stocked in the fabric and sewing sections as others that I have seen elsewhere. These were purchased in PA. I have found the quality and price of their fabrics to be very good.

They were not bought for this mystery, but when I returned home and caught up on my emails there was the one with the fabric requirements calling for six fabrics.  It seems fortuitous.

Color Choice 2
Orange/Yellow/Gray

Also waiting for me when I returned home was a lovely birthday gifty from my dear friend, Dorian @ Ridge Top Quilts that had these two lovely orange Flea Market Fancy prints, my favorites from this famous line.  These are my first fabrics ever for this wonderful fabric line which I have been drooling over for a long time.  I pulled a yellow and red from my stash and rounded out the six fabrics needed with the new grays.

Color Choice 3
Fall Fabrics

These fabrics are all from my stash and ready to cut.

My new fabrics are swishing in the washer, so I have some time to decide.

:)  Opinions and advise always valued and appreciated.  :)

TIA!

More Hexie Fun!

Hand Stitched Folded Hexie Flowers

These are made from folded circles, no papers, no templates.
I learned this technique from my friend Cindy at the The Quilt & Needle

This project is kept in a take-along bag that I carry around for those times when I will be sitting and looking for something to keep my hands busy.  I have been working on these for a long time and do not yet have a big enough pile for a quilt.

These hexes are not as precise as the perfect EPP ones that I so admire, but they are much easier on my hands in which I have some arthritis.  I thought others who are looking for an alternative to the EPP ones, might be interested.

On the Quilt & Needle Forum we had a wonderful Hexagon Quilt-a-long.
There are other posts on the Q&N Blog showing these and other hexies like this post here from Dorian  ... Summer Quilts

Someday I hope to have enough of these for a quilt!

Every time I lay these out on a table, Butterfly finds them.

Naptime!
Butterfly wants this quilt for herself.

On My Design Wall

Shades of Summer

This is a close up of the WIP on my design wall.  I have been testing a new design from my talented friend, Jess Smith @ The Quilt & Needle, where the complete pattern will be released soon. I really like the way this is working up.  This quilt is all about the fabric.  I have the top sewn and am deciding of the applique circle fabrics and placements.

 circle cutter

There are full size templates in the pattern, but I am making use of my favorite circle cutter for the smaller circles.  I will be leaving this pretty summery top up on my design wall while I catch up on my other quilty commitments.
The new mystery pattern ...

is coming to

The pattern clues say this will be fast and easy and 5 yards of fun!

Due to my personal schedule, I am not sure if I will be able to sew along this time, but I love watching all the quilts in progress.

Time to buy my pattern!

Shhhh ... Butterfly is sleeping ...

This test quilt is interrupted by a very important cat nap!

Butterfly, who has not been feeling well, was no where to be found
and hiding somewhere in the cellar this morning.
In the afternoon she appeared for a snack and went outside for awhile.
My kitty looks to be feeling a little better.
I am happy that she decided to help me press my freshly washed fabric
so I am not going to disturb her.

I am testing another up and coming quilt pattern from my talented friend,

As usual, I have too many  thoughts and choices for fabrics.

Hmmmm ...

 Leaf Symphony

These gorgeous, large scale fall leaf prints that have been waiting in my stash for a few years for the right pattern to come along?
???

... or ...

Shades of Summer
 ???

These lovely, shimmery, summery fabrics which my hubby loves?

I went to sleep last night ready to start cutting the leaf prints
this morning as soon as the pattern arrived in my inbox.

Instead of counting sheep, my mind counts my fabric blessings.
As I drifted off to sleep, I lovely parade of fabrics started
jumping over the fence saying, "Me! ... me!"
I went to sleep (with Butterfly cuddling against my legs)
dreaming colors and prints and
I woke up this morning with a new quilt dream in my mind ...
and my dear Butterfly nowhere to be found ...
so I spent the early part of the day calling her and looking for her.

Also, I went stash spelunking in my closets and drawers and came up with the second summer colorway.

While I continued to fret over Butterfly, I washed some of the blue fabrics that had somehow been put away without making
the customary trip though the washer and dryer.

When he comes home, I am going to show the pattern to my hubby
and let him decide this time.

If he likes the pattern, it will be the Shades of Summer
and this quilt will be started for him for Father's Day
and finished for his birthday at the end of August.

If he does not appear to like the pattern, I will start cutting leaves.

Despite being married for 32 years this summer and having attended
many, many quilt shows together, I still cannot predict for sure if he will really like a particular pattern or quilt.

Either color way will work just fine for me.

:-)

Chelsea - Free Quilt Pattern!

It is sew pretty!

It is a Free Pattern from

Pattern Designed by my talented friend,

from

In  March, I was lucky enough to be a tester for this pattern.
The pretty Chelsea fabrics were not available to me at that time,
so I gathered some fabrics from my stash and a nearby LQS

Green/Black/Gray/White Fabrics

I dithered awhile about choices and then thought I had them set,
but
when it came time to cut, I made one of those mistakes ... er ...
:) design opportunities :)

Really, I thought I had checked twice to cut once but I ended up rechecking twice to cut again with these

Final Choice Test Fabrics

I did like the results.

Here are my

 Blocks

and ... um

Two Layouts

Option # 1 - gray center
(this is according to the pattern)

... or ...

Option # 2 - green center
(my idea design option)

So you see, I still have not pieced this top and finished this quilt.

I really would like to get this top pieced.

If you would like to help me decide whether to go with

#1 ... gray center
or
#2 ... green center

Please offer an opinion.

Your help is much appreciated.

On My (new) Design Wall

This is my current quilty project.
I love the way this is coming together!

I have been testing this pattern for my

RidgeTopQuilts

Dorian will be hosting a Saturday Special this weekend  at
and this lovely pattern will be available free for a short time.

This is my temporary design wall.

It was very easy to set up and works quite well.

It is just a large piece of thin soft polyester batting gently pulled taut and pinned over the large wall quilt in my sewing room.

Since my sewing room is much smaller than the dining room space I had used before and my cutting table is smaller, I have not had a good space to lay out and view a quilt top in progress.  This is a very convenient solution.  I hope to make a more permanent design wall in the future. This may be a bit tricky on this wall, as there is a hidden door and doorframe behind this quilt.  I may have to rearrange my sewing room so that I can use the largest wall for my design wall or I will have to build a frame on this one to make it flat to support the more permanent design wall. Something to think about.

Katniss was very curious about the new project.
and was also very helpful ...

pressing my block units for me.

Such a helper.
