My Quilty Bucket List

The Q&N Quilty Aunties Baby Quilt is done and in the mail to the volunteer quilter!



My March Goal 

for A Year of Lovely Finishes is done!

Here is a close up of the blocks that were made by members of the forum.

Here are is the nice black textural fabric for the outer border
 and pretty pink fabric sent for the binding.

This is the layout that I drew up for this quilt for the approval of the baby mommy-to-be. This one really worked up just like the plan.

Planning and sewing these group quilts is an art of its own.
A pattern needs to be chosen that is availible free online and easy enough for anyone to sew who would like to add a block even if they are new to piecing quilt blocks.

For this quilt we chose the Rail Fence Block  from Quilter's Cache

Fabrics and colors need to be something that enough of us will have in our stashes so that the costs are keep down for volunteers.

I have contributed to the making of many of these group quilts
and everyone of them is sew very special.

It always makes the world feel smaller and cozier when making one of these group quilts to welcome a new baby to our world.

My New Temporary Design Wall

This is my new (temporary) design wall.

As my regular readers know, I have moved (temporarily) to my old dining room

 sewing space as my sewing room is occupied by one of my sons.

  I do not mind sewing in our living area, but apparently 

I became very spoiled by having had my own space where I was able to "spread out."   

So ... I seem to be extending my sewing space further by branching into the adjoining living room.  

I am now calling this quilt in the making
"Anything Goes With Gray"
in my head.

One of the things I liked most about my sewing room was that I was finally able to set up a temporary design wall and this was so useful that I had been making sewing room improvement plans to make a permanent design wall.

I now cannot sew without some kind of design wall.

So with the help of my hubby I made a new temporary one by putting a large piece of batting over our big entertainment wall bookcase in the living room.

Yes, there is a television behind these

  Friendship x and + Swap Blocks.

I had to play catch-up on these blocks, which I am swapping with my quilty bestie,

Dorian @ Ridge Top Quilts.

These are my February, March and April blocks.

I shall actually be ahead for once!

My Spring Frolic Quilt In Progress

Here are some of the other blocks.
I really have  a difficult time stopping myself when my
 "30 minutes a day of sewing for me time" is up
when I have these fabrics in my hands.
I have so many projects to catch up on that I have to keep to my self-imposed limit
so I can get everything accomplished.

I will get this spring quilt done.

And Spring Will Come ... soon, I am hoping.

This Triangle Quilt Along @ Sassy Quilter

A 60 Degree Triangle Quilt has been on my quilty bucket list for a long, long time
and this fun quiltalong was just the incentive to get it off my "To-Do" list
and onto my "WIP List."   A small step in the right direction.

Sew I have many happy projects to choose from
when I sit down in my happy sewing place.

The Daily Block

365 Challenge Block 28

3" block finished

I am really happy with how this one worked up.

I have always liked the Shoo Fly Block.

A scrappy Shoo Fly or Churn Dash Quilt has been on my quilty bucket list for a long time.

Maybe someday.

Time to go back and play catch up with the earlier blocks before the month runs out.

That is my quilty plan for tomorrow.

Ridge Top Quilts

It was my first attempt at this start block. 

Dorian, my online quilty bestie, patiently helped me through the process. 

I admit that I am still not a fan of "Y" seams.

I have never actually finished a Lone Star Quilt. 

This quilt block is the end product of a previous Stash Busting effort...

...  while I was trying to use up fabrics from this

 Mystery Quilt in 2011

My Favorite Bed Quilt

The large blue floral fabric in this Lonestar Block

 is the last of the focus fabric for 

I think I had intended to complete the QAL and use this as a wallhanging in the bedroom.  The corner blocks and border were never sewn.  

Now this large block is a UFO that surfaced when I was pulling yellow, blue and green scraps for my Scrappy Irish Chain WIP.

Maybe I will add a scrappy border and finish it as a wallhanging

 when my Irish Chain Quilt is finished and on my bed.

"It could happen ..." ;)

This quote is one of our family sayings for wishful thinking.

It comes from an old family type movie that my daughter had on repeat on the VHS player on our old television in the 90's. She wore out the VHS tape.

Can anyone name the movie?

I am walking down memory lane and thinking wishfully 

about getting my UFOs and WIPs this Sunday afternoon.

Will 2023 be the year I complete a Lone Star Quilt?

It has long been on my quilty bucket list.

I saw this post on

It has me thinking wishfully about setting one goal this year.

I am thinking my goal should be to finish one UFO.

Will this Lone Star block be the one? 

Time will tell.  

Salt and Sand Blog Hop ~ My Day

Here is my newest project.

I bought these fabrics at

Bits 'n' Pieces Quilt Shop in Pelham, NH.

I knew I wanted to make something in these fabrics as soon as I saw the announcement for this

Salt and Sand Blog Hop @ Just Let Me Quilt

The pattern is by

Among Brenda's Quilts & Bags

and it is easy to follow with good illustrations.

I have cut the sides for all three size buckets from 

1 and 1/4 yards of This Large Print Fabric.

I believe I also have enough 2.5" strips for the bindings, too.

I did not buy the bucket pattern last year, as I feel all thumbs making 

bags and buckets and it was sold out at my local shop.

Note to self: "buy it when you see it."

  I decided that these would be a perfect gift for someone I love,

 so I decided to give these fabric buckets a try for this blog hop.

Since I did not have the pattern, 

the webbing for the handles,

or the Bosal In R Form foam stabilizer ... 

I  recently ordered these online for this project from:

Sew Classic Fabrics

The pattern was included in the kit and the fabrics were all neatly marked. 

I purchased the webbing and the stabilizer separately. 

I definitely recommend this stablizer for this project

as it has much better form than the soft iron-on stabilizer I had on hand.

I could have tried making fabric handles, but I wanted my gift to have 

as sturdy and professional look as I could manage.

These are the fabric pieces for Medium Size Bucket.

The brown rock print is the bottom fabric for all three buckets.

The lining fabrics are from the other prints in the fabric line.

Sewing the webbing for the handles was a task for my heavy dual feed foot

 on my Jannome 6600p.

I would not attempt this bucket project without a good walking foot.

I am pleased with how these worked up.

Following the directions is not too difficult 

but this process is time consuming for me

as I can only sew in small increments

and then I have to rest my eyes again.

So far I have only completed the medium bucket

but I have the side panels for the small and large buckets

 cut and fused and ready to quilt. 

I hope to make the next two buckets this week.

Yesterday, I received the Johnson & Johnson One-Dose Covid vaccine

and my arm is a little sore ... not bad, just a little achy.

Today may be a day of rest. 

I am very pleased with how this sewed up.

I may alter the lining directions for the next two buckets

as my lining is a little loose inside.

This project was quilty kitty approved! 

Mr Scrapatch really likes this project,

so I may be making more of them for our own use.

I Like Thursday ~ Learning Something New

 

I like learning and trying my hand at new things. 

One of the skills of quilt making has always eluded me ... Hand Applique.

By trial and error I leaned to do a nice machine applique.

Now it is time to apply the same effort toward hand stitched applique.

I want to make my own templates, too.

This is one of the new tools I am using is this

With this I have made a template set for the

Strawberries Block from the Vintage Flower Book.

So far I have the four large strawberry pieces cut 

and am preparing them for applique. 

I am still in the trial and error phase of seeing what method works best for me.

I do admit that I still feel all thumbs during this process.

I shall persevere.

Hand applique has long been on my quilty bucket list

and I decided it is going to be my challenge for 2024.

Just Keep Sewing

These are the fabrics that are on my cutting table this morning.

They are actually fabrics that My Music Girl bought sometime ago and left here for me to make something she requested last fall that did not get done before my eye operation and then "Sewing for Baby" took priority.  Since her life has taken a different turn and she has been nesting and getting ready for baby, the other project has been shelved.  I want to make something for My Girl so I have decided to sew them into a small special project that is a surprise.

Life has been "unsettled" in my scrapatch and I just have to carry on ...

one day ... one stitch ... one prayer ... at a time. 

I have been sewing ...

These are pieced according to the pattern.

No ruffles on these, Katniss.

I like the original block pattern, too.

Well ... maybe I will ruffle one feather before I sew the top.
