... in bundles, 

like these lovely ones from Moda.

I also have them in stacks, drawers, bins ... 

closets ...

... and even under the bed.

I will not show you the photos of the quilt monster under the bed ... ;)

Why am I showing you (some of) my lovely stash of fat quarters?

Because I have found a good solution to cutting and using 

(some of)

these fat quarters ...

Promises (and Wishes) To Keep

Last May I was working on this project.

It is for a promised guest blog tutorial

It is not done.

It is (mostly) done.

I have only the outer border to sew onto the top,

the backing to make,

the sandwiching and quilting,

the binding,

and (maybe) some embellishments ,

and the tutorial to write.

Hmmmmm ...

Considering that the design process is the biggest part of the work,

I shall call this mostly done,

although the quilting on my home machine is always the most labor intensive part for me.

The center of the top actually sat on my design wall, 

sometimes rolled up out of view,

 but never out of mind

for many months,

until I took it down a few days ago to press it and give it a little loving.

I was sew excited about this beautiful fabric and project last spring.

The beauty of these fabrics are speaking to me again.

In truth, they have been speaking all along

but I was not listening.

A lot happened and I did not sew a stitch for months 

but I am not going into all of that.

Some of it is private and depressing stuff

and I let myself get bogged down in it.

Shari @ BCQC has got to be one of the most patient, understanding people on the planet.

These pretty vintage looking fabrics remind me of the curtains and bed spread that my mother chose for my room when I was a very young girl.

I am not sure what I will make but I am thinking maybe a sweet lap quilt.

I really like the blue in this fabric and am thinking to put a light blue solid with these prints.

While I was waiting for the coral bird fabric  so I could work on my quilt,

I made these ...

This is the first time I used fabric from Spoonflower.

The was a screenprint on Kona ... really nice fabric.

My daughter had it sent to me for these strap covers.

These are for my daughter's Kinderpack.

I looked at some of these online and figured my own pattern ...

and they arrived and they fit ... :)

My daughter and her family are now stationed in the PNW
and this photo was taken at the Point Defiance Zoo.

I am hoping to visit them sometime this summer.

Back to quilting ... ;)

Fabric Magic!

There is "gold dust" sprinkled around the dandelion puffs!

Do you see it here?  

I did not ... looks like gray speckles to me. 

I have been looking and working with these lovely fabrics for several days now and 

when I placed these two fabrics side by side to sew ... 

... magic happened ! 

These are two different fabric lines.

The birdies are from "A Little Bird Told Me"

The dandelion puffs are from "Make a Wish"

I combined these two lines for this quilt because I wanted to add the peach and gold to my new quilt.

 Did you see the message on the selvage ... "threaded with love" ? 

These are quality fabrics ... :-)

My longtime readers know that I wash all fabrics except small precuts due to an allergic reaction 

to the chemicals in the finishing process.

I am happy to say that these new Lewis and Irene fabrics have passed 

the wash test with flying colors.  

The weave is tight; the fabric thick and nice to touch; 

it does not warp in the wash; shrinkage was minimal and the colors do not run

I have a serious case of fabric love going on here ... <3 <3 <3

This is a new pattern that I am developing and it started Here

It will be another free tutorial on the Bear Creek Quilting Blog

 I am calling this new quilt design "Wish Catcher!"

"Coastal" from Lewis and Irene

The swirly "Fishy Shoals" are my favorite from this line and I have used the gray for the envelopes, the multi-color on white for the background and the aqua in the narrow inner border (which is a design addition to the original pattern) and for the binding in the above quilt layout.

I used the beautiful dark "Sealife" on navy for the wide outer border.

I bought these fabrics ... it was love at first sight ... with a different quilt image in my head

but the more I look at this layout, the more I want to sew it.

A cute little baby boy I know has a nautical themed nursery and he needs a quilt ... ;)

Here are the fabric requirements for this quilt:

1/4 yard of the following prints for the inside 3" square in the envelope blocks:


.25 yard - Lighthouses on Aqua


.25 yard - Lighthouses on Sea Blue


.25 yard - Lighthouses on Deep Sea Blue


.25 yard - Sealife on Aqua


.25 yard - Sea Plants on Deep Sea Blue


.25 yard - Sea Plants on Light Aqua


1.25 yard - Fishy Shoals Gray for the outer envelope blocks


2.25 yards Fishy Shoal on White for the barkground fabric,
including the setting triangles on the envelope blocks

2.25 yards - Sealife on Navy for outer border

1 yard - Fishy Shoals Aqua  for the inner border and binding ...
cut into 2.5" strips for inner border and double fold binding.
