Scrappy Saturday ~ SAYG

My first 6 Blocks for the 

100 Days 100 Block Party @ GnomeAngel

The pattern is

Kinship -100 Days Fusion Block PDF Pattern

The fabrics are

Curio by Betsy Olmsted for Windham Fabrics

 and selected fabrics from my stash.

I played with the block pattern instructions a little

for Block 6

as I wanted to show as much of one of the bell jars as possible.

Then I found a scrap that had the selvage info 

for the fabric line and designer.

Score!

I keep a scrap jar for this project right on my cutting table 

so I can use up my scraps as I go,

especially the small pieces around the fussy cuts

for the focus fabrics in the blocks.

I call this method

SAYG  

 "Scrappy As You Go"

It uses up really nice scraps as I sew my blocks

and keeps them out of my bigger scrap jars

where they may or may not be used later.

I am really happy with this block

and this sew along

and have been able to keep up so far.

RSC ~ Transition Saturday

My first "transition" block of the day.

It is supposed to still be brown with pink month over at the

RSC 16

... but I had to cut more 1.5" pink and brown scraps ...

... so I started cutting other colors, too.

The thought is that since I am making a Postage Stamp Quilt
and I want the colors to blend well throughout the quilt
that I need some "transition blocks"
that have other colors in them.

Here is Transition Block #2

It seems that mostly green and purple scraps found their way into

my pink and brown blocks.

Then I picked up a couple of left over blue scraps from January 

and sewed them in with the greens and pinks and purples ...

... into Transition Block # 3

I have no idea what the March colors will be.

I may make transition blocks on the first and last Saturdays of the month.

I got started late on this challenge and only got one blue block made for January.

I need to go back and make more.

I really like using up my small scraps in these blocks.

Looking forward to making the March blocks.

I am going to be travelling next month and need a small project to pack and bring with me.

I will be visiting my daughter abd will have access to her small sewing machine.

I think I am going to cut a couple of baggies of 1.5" squares and
make this my sewing project
when I need a little fabric play time.

Mostly I will be playing with my grand-darling.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016

So this is my scrappy happiness for the weekend.

I have no idea what I am making with the row.

It is 2.5" by 11.5"

Maybe I will make some more rows from my cut-off, cast-off HSTs

and make a mini quilt.

Do you have drawers and boxes full of those HST cut-aways?

Or do you just toss them away?

What do you do with these bits of blocks?

For now I have put this little row next to the block it came from.

Maybe they will end up in the quilt together somehow.

Frozen in the Scrapatch

It is Scrappy Saturday on Sunday.

RSC 16 @ SoScrappy

Yesterday I fussed with  This Block so much in the morning ...

that I did not start sewing my

6.5 inch Postage Stamp Blocks

until late in the day,

when the window by my machine had iced over.

It is still iced over.

It is even colder today and tonight.

The Scrapatch is feeling like an igloo.

I do not have cabin fever, though, cause I have my sewing machine to keep me busy.

My feet are like blocks of ice though because the floor in my sewing corner 

is one of the coldest spots in the house, despite being directly over the furnace,

because it has a bay wall that extends over the foundation with no insulation underneath.

When I get up and try to make my feet work, I am always saying

"Cold ... cold ... cold ... cold ..."  like Anna in Frozen.

My toes feel much better after changing into new socks I have warmed on the radiator.

Ahhhh ... that is better.

I have four February RSC Blocks done now though.

Makes me happy

... the blocks, warm socks and a chai latte,
and a dark chocolate raspberry filled heart my Valentine gave me ...

Mmmmmm ... bliss <3

It's Purple Month!

 

Purple Coin Block

On Saturdays, I have started joining in with the linky party at the RSC

 

on the So Scrappy blog.

 

There are some wonderful scrappy projects posted in the links today!

 

I made Pink Coin Blocks last month for my 2013 RSC quilt.  My tutorial for this block may be found HERE or on My Tutorials at the top of the page.

 

 

Here are my purple and white scraps cut and organized for my blocks.

 

 

I got three blocks made today before I had to turn off my sewing machine for awhile.  I have some more purple scraps and plan to sew more again next Saturday.

 

Hope to get back to my sewing machine tonight.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013

January - In The Pink

For the last few months, I have been following the Rainbow Scrap Challenge at So Scrappy Blog and every week I have thought about joining in and another Saturday goes by and my scraps are still piling up.

So for 2013 I have decided I am going to stop thinking and start sewing.

Sew before the day is over ...

 I sewed!

These blocks are destined for a Scrap Quilt that I started last summer with the intention of making it a leader and ender project.  Somewhere along the way of packing and moving stuff into my new sewing room, the bag with these scrap fabrics got tucked int a closet and forgotten. 

Now I have made some good progress on the pink units for the ten pink blocks in this quilt. 

Next Saturday I plan to sew more units together.
