A Blooming Bunch Fabrics by Maureen McCormick

This beautiful blooming bunch of fabrics was not in shops when I made my sample block,

so I sewed my stash and chose

 Petals and Pots by Riley Blake Designs

for my fabrics.

I started with these fabrics Posted Here

I had some fun with the block and added some improv applique.

I called this "Appli-Play!"

Here is my finished pillow top. 

I love the way my improv applique shapes blazed this classic star block outward. 

This is the back of my pillow.

I added golden yellow decorative snaps to secure the envelope closure.

Day 29 ~ 149 Days Until Christmas ~ Getting Ready

This is my Christmas in July Quilt Conundrum

Today I went spelunking in my fabric stash cave

and came up with these treasured gems.

I am making a Christmas Quilt, in August, actually.

My daughter and I are both sewing along

and making Christmas quilts with the

The Ultimate Beginners Quilt Along @ Fat Quarter Shop

They have released the

They also have a lovely kit in solids

but I want to make a Christmas quilt and I want to sew my stash.

So I went stash splunking today and came up with these choices: 

(1) North Pole by Stacy Hsu for Moda Fabrics,
which was my favorite Christmas collection from last year
and I scooped up these beauties in the after Christmas sales.
I would add a white solid for the sashing, I think
The print on the upper left is enough for the backing.
I think I would use the red text print as the binding
and the green snow print on the right as the outer border.

(2) Kringles Sweet Shop by Maude Asbury for Blend Fabrics.

This is all yardage and I think there is a gray cookie print that eluded me 

in my search. If I picj this one I will have to explore my stash closet again.

The red and white basic is a Christmas Basics by Lori Holt for Riley Blake fabrics.

I might use a white solid instead. 

(3) Ring the Holly Days by Mary Carey for Henry Glass Fabrics.

The pretty metallic vines is a yard of Bonnie and Camille's Vintage Holiday 

and it is a good color match for the sashing or border.

The red and green dot is another Christmas Basic by Lori Holt for Riley Blake.

(4)  Season's Greetings by Sentimental Studio for Moda Fabrics.

This fat quarter bundle was bought on deep clearance a few years ago 

and I know I have a couple of yards of one of the blue background

fabrics ... somewhere.  I will find it if I pick this one.

The colors are very rich and it has an old-timey Christmas vibe.

I have always wanted to make a quilt with this but I have just never gotten 'round to it.

(5) Last bit not least is this lovely

Glad Tidings FQ Bundle by Brenda Riddle for Moda Fabrics.

I love Brenda Riddle's designs and colors.

If I pick this I will have to look for fabrics to match it.

It should be an easy with these colors 

or I might go find one of these prints online.

I would likely use white or gray sashing as there are light gray prints 

as well as white.

Well those are the choices!

Which would you choose?

I will, of course, also be consulting with my quilty kitty helpers,

my hubby and anyone who stops by.

For my Road Trip Bag I used
Anne of Green Gables Kindred Spirits Fabric by Riley Blake

These fabrics are sew pretty!

These are the pieces to my bag.
I added a couple of design options.  

I added a flap with snaps to the outer pocket.

It still fits a good sized hardcover book
and you can snap it closed to keep it from sliding out
on the ground.

If you are like me, you are always dumping bags
at the beach or in the park and have to pick them up
and clean them off.

So I also added ...

an inner zipper pocket to keep small items, like a pocket wallet, secure.

I cut a 10" by 18" rectangle
and used a 10" zipper for the inner pocket\.

I cut a 14" by 4.5" rectangle for the outer flap

I used my Babyville Boutique Snap Pliers

... to add pink flower shaped snaps to the outer flap.

The reverse side of my bag is plain and the inner pocket is on the same side
as the outer pocket so this side may be used as a pillow in the car.

Even though my bag may be used as a pillow case,
I could not resist making a special pillow  from these pretty fabrics.
to go into my bag.

I cut blocks from the panel border for the front of my pillow.

I made an envelope style pillow back
to which I added snaps to hold it closed.
This is one of my favorite pillow back methods.

My Road Trip Bag and Pillow are ready for summer adventures.

I will be gifting this bag to a girl who is of the age I was the first time I read
Anne of Green Gables.
It is still one of my favorite stories.

This cream background fabric is my second favorite fabric in this line. 

This is my favorite!

I am not really a purple person.

This periwinkle is my favorite shade.

Add the lime and the tiny touch of yellow in the flora and fauna.

I am in fabric heaven. 

This fabric glows!

My photo does not do it justice.

I am working on the 12.5" blocks now.

I am finding this long
Add-A-Quarter Ruler
invaluable while making these blocks.

I love them because I can make precise blocks by sewing on the pre-printed lines,
a big help to me with my vision issues.

I am also finding that I need my large light box to properly see
the placement of these fabrics.

Here is one of the 6.5" Pineapple paper blocks I have made.

I started this quilt Here in April.
I am just starting the 12.5" blocks

It is time to get 'er done.

It is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

My clematis is full of big purple star blooms and is growing up my trellis,

I am really happy because this is thriving in a place that is hard to get anything to grow

because of how narrow the space is between the parch and the wall in our driveway.

This was a $2.99 plant a few years back from Walmart 

and there was one hot summer it got too dry while I was away. 

I am so happy to see it happy.

Someone once told me that clematis like

"their feet in the shade and their heads in the sun."

This may be true as this spot gets early morning sun, then is shaded by our neighbor's house and then gets sun on only the upper part of the trellis in the afternoon.
This photo was taken during its midday shade.

Do you see the color similarities in the Pinkerville floral 
and the colors in my clematis?

I just noticed this as I published this post.

Must be why I love that fabric.
