Scrappy Saturday Sewing ~ Folded Hexagons

A Little Scrappy Saturday Stitching

With my sewing machine tucked out of the home project way,

I have been crocheting, but missing the feel of the fabric.

Today I decided to pull open this small hand sewing project box

and do a little hand stitching.

These folded hexagon flowers are destined for an old WIP:

My Kingfisher Quilt ~ UFO

This is what it looked like the last time it was out of my project box.

I have long admired the colorful quilts that I have seen in the

Kingfisher Stitch-Along @ Stitched in Color

I am making my own version of this with my hexagon flowers.

These folded hexagon flowers are not EPP.

They were made from this tutorial:

Tuna Can Hexagon Flowers by Cindy Prince @ Q&N

Over the years, I have developed my own method of cutting and folding.

My hand stitching skills are definitely a little rusty today.

I was not entirely happy with how my stitches looked.

I am going to need to work on that if

I am ever to have enough flowers for my planned quilt.

I need about 9 more.

Hope this one gets done someday soon, too.

Hope you are having a Happy Easter Weekend!

My Local Quilt Shop ~ Fabric Love

Who loves free fabric? ~ I love free fabric!

For Christmas, Mr. Scrapatch went to my local quilt shop
and bought a gift card that also included the bonus of a card
that lets me choose one yard of free fabric per month.

What a guy!

For "Local Quilt Shop Day" I visited my favorite LQS:

Bits n Pieces Quilt Shop in Pelham, NH

I have been shopping here since it was a tiny place across the street with no long arm machines.  I remember shopping its moving sale when I came home with bolts of fabric that were $2.00 per yard.  Some of them are still in my closet finding ways into my quilts.

It is always a bit cluttered with bolts of colorful fabric stacked everywhere

and full of fabric treasures waiting to be found.

It feels like home.

Bits n Pieces, by the way, is one the quilt shop where I always see two or three men wandering the narrow aisles. Today was no exception.

It is that kind of place.

This is my progress last year on

My Kingfisher Quilt

There are quite a few of the $2.00 per yard BnP moving sale fabrics in the hexies.

It was set aside at the end of summer for other projects.

I have been putting in a few stitches here and there

to make more folded hexies for this quilt.

When I saw this Hummingbird Heaven Fabric from Studio E

I decided it would be perfect to add to my floral fabrics and hexies.

There are free quilt patterns for this line in the link above.

One free pattern is this easy and beautiful panel quilt:

If you would like a kit for this quilt:

Bits n Pieces has this Hummingbird Heaven Quilt Kit Here

I loved these pink and yellow nasturtiums.
It is true hummingbirds love nasturtiums because I have seen them feasting on the nectar of the ones in my windowboxes in late summer.

I hope you had a happy Local Quilt Shop Day!

To-Do Tuesday # 3 ~ Re-Evaluating

I have been sewing.

Linking up today with

To-Do Tuesday @ Chrisknits

Much of it has been hand sewing and stitching as my knee is still tweaking

and I have been sitting.

I have made more blocks and more hexagons for my

Kingfisher Quilt

I have started a new large scale project

to use up my 30's Reproduction Fabric scraps.

This was my Scrappy Saturday Sewing.

This will be ongoing and it will pop up in my posts regularly.

~

Hmmm ... none of these projects were on my

Last Week's Goals List

Sewing Goals ...

(1) Make new covers for outdoor swing ... not again :(

2) Cut and sew project for the Fairy Tales project ... yes, no peeking ;)

3) Make more blocks for my Grand-darling's A-Z Quilt ... no ... sigh :(

This is to be hand delivered when we visit in the fall and the  trip plan has been adjusted to a later date to allow for attending a family wedding reception. So I have more time to complete it.

Non-Sewing Goals ...

1) Plant window boxes and hanging baskets ... yes! :)

Here is another one.

With Mr. Scrapatch's help,

I actually got nine window boxes and three hanging baskets

 and several pots planted.

There has also been hours of watering happening in the 90F plus heat.

Heat index is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit today.

~

Well, at least I met my non-sewing goals.

~

It appears my "To Do List" goal making needs some re-evaluating.

I have always been hesitant to make weekly or monthly goals like this because I very much like to pick up whatever work in progress or new project appeals to me on any given day or night.

So I am adjusting my goals so that they may be more flexible

and in line with my easily distracted quilty muse.

This Week's Goals:

1) Continue work on my Fairy Tale Blog Hop Project ...

sneak peek soon.

2) Hand Stitch Project ...

finish lettering embroidery on beehive and/or work on cross stitch project.

3) Make Blocks for WIPs ...

not specifying project.

4) Swing Cushion Covers ... this one is staying on the list.

I do have the fabric cut and I do want to sew new covers.

The problem with this goal is the cushions are in usable condition and are in constant use on the swing in the shade outside.

5) Sew my scraps.

I love using up my fabric scraps!

6) Take time to garden and smell the roses.

I am hoping my more generalized goal making

will result in my feeling more accomplished.

It could work ... ;)

Stitch Sew & Show ~ Week 16 ~ More Fabric Fun!

Welcome to Stitch Sew and Show ~ Week 16

I have been working on the hexagons and diamonds for

My Kingfisher Quilt

when I have not been outside gardening and inside spring cleaning.

I found this fabric when I was cleaning.

This fabric line is Cottage Joy by Windham Fabrics

It is a 2018 line bShannon Christine

I have bits and pieces of this collection and maybe enough of this large print yardage for the backing on my quilt.  I am now wishing I had bought more whe I saw it as I am really loving the colors and designs.

I cut enough circles of this print for one hexagon flower for the front.

I have been choosing only yellow fabrics for my centers,

but could not resist making this beautiful bee the center of attention on this one.

I have been sitting and sewing these hexagons outside, weather permitting.

Much of my stitching and sewing has been inside this week

as it has been raining or damp and cool and very windy.

On Saturday, it was  a lovely sunny spring day so I did get

some pretty little pansies planted in my window boxes

and have been enjoying them as I hand sew in my kitchen with my back door open.

When I was spring cleaning, I also uncovered this bit of fabric.

It looks like pages and notes by a Victorian naturalist or explorer.

I have only a fat quarter and I have had it maybe 10 years.

I have no idea what the fabric line is as there is no info on the selvage.

Anyone know what this fabric is?

I am now trying to figure what I might do with this fat quarter for the upcoming "Wild" Blog hop, although I have already have project designed and started in different fabrics for this blog hop. This fabric does not work within what I have in the works so it would have to be a new (and small) project.

What would you make with this fabric?

Friday Fabric Play Day

Here in my progress on my version of the

Kingfisher Quilt @ Stitched in Color

I have been enjoying the eye candy in the

#kingfisherquilt

on Instagram and had this on my list for a long time.

I have had a stack of these  Hexagon Flowers in my sewing stash

for a very, very long time ... since 2009.

I started this plan Here

These folded hexagon flowers are not EPP.

They were made from this tutorial:

Tuna Can Hexagon Flowers by Cindy Prince @ Q&N

When I came across these folded hexagon flowers recently while I was spring cleaning, I decided to combine the two and drew up this plan.

I am machine appliqueing the hexagon flowers to the diamonds.

I am also machine stitching around the center hexagon.

This project is a "Dreami" squirrel at the moment,

mostly because I sewed more Folded Hexagon Flowers

while I was away sitting and stitching.

If I can get myself to stop playing with these flowers and diamonds

I am going to try to catch up on my alphabet quilt blocks.

Ummm ... maybe tomorrow ... :)

Hmmm ... maybe not ... :/

The weather is forecast for a good Saturday

 to work in the garden

Time will tell.

Have a Happy Quilty Weekend!
