Patchwork Crochet Purrrfection

"Hello!  Nutmeg here.

Mommy and I have been crocheting.

The center of our Sampler Squares Patchwork Crochet Afghan is together.

Now we are adding the borders.

I have been curling up on Mommy's lap to help.

It is late and time for sleep and I am nestled in for the night

on our favorite chair in this lovely soft yarn bed.

Mommy says I have to give it back in the morning so she can finish it.

I think it is purrrfect just as it is."

Patchwork Crochet

This part feels almost like quilting.

I have the blocks laid out and I am sewing them together.

For this purpose I am using a large plastic needle and yarn and the ladder stitch.

Hope to have the center of my "patchwork crochet quilt"  soon.

Happy Stitching!

20 Crochet Squares Done ~ Plus Some

My 20 blocks are complete for my Squares SamplerAfghan!

Here is the main page for this crochet sampler:

Crochet Sampler Crochet Along @ The Inspired Wren

I finished as I began with this light pink yarn for block 20.

The Crochet Along Layout Here has 20 blocks and a border.

I like the layout of this afghan.

However, my muse decided I was not done making blocks.

So I made this 5 inch block to add as a setting square.

I followed this free pattern and video tutorial:

These blocks are fun and quick and easy to make.

More blocks coming soon.

I hope you are having a happy weekend!

Squares Sampler Crochet ~ Two Blocks to Go!

Block 18 is on my blocking board.

Here is the main page for this crochet sampler:

Crochet Sampler Crochet Along @ The Inspired Wren

This is Block 18, a two sided Cable Stitch Block.

I decided to play with the colors and make a raspberry pink stripe in the center.

Then I decided to do the single crochet border in the same pink.

It is the only block I have edged in any other color than the light gray.

I like it but if it does not play well with the other blocks, I can pull out the pink edge and make it gray like the others.

Here is the back of the block with its two cables.

Two more blocks to go!

It is a stormy day here ... rain and snow and very windy.

With the wink chill factor it is feeling like single digits.

Brrrr!

Another good day to stay in and cook and crochet.

I hope that you and yours are safe and well and warm.

Cable Stitch Crochet ~ I Think I Have Got It

I think I have got it!

Here is the first cable stitch for my Block 17:

Pattern 9 ~ Cable Stitch Square @ The Inspired Wren

I am making the two sided pattern and this is the front

which has one cable centered framed by Front Post Single Crochets (FPSC)

Here is the back of the block which has two cables

and four spaced FPSC.

I am following the pattern as written and it working well for me.

This is a good thing because I cannot find a video which has this same cable stitch pattern anywhere on the internet.

I believe this is the first time I have ever done a cable crochet stitch.

I am feeling pretty good about completing this block and maybe attempting another cable crochet project in the future.

Have you done a cable stitch in crochet?

If so, I would love to see your version

and the pattern you used.

I hope you and yours are having a happy weekend!

I Like Thursday # 125 ~ Stacks and Stitches

This stack of quilts has landed on the table in the corner of the living room while we are painting the bedroom.

It makes me smile.

Since it is Thursday I am passing along the things that have made me smile this week with my friends at

I Like Thursday @ Not Afraid of Color

Hopefully these things will make you smile, too.

I have a stack of crochet blocks to show you, too.

Progress on my Squares Sampler Crochet Blocks  makes me smile.

This is my 13th Block and it is the first of two blocks in the

7th Pattern Stitch @ The Inspired Wren Crochet Along

It is an easy and fun bobble stitch.

This  spread out stack of books has been my reading this week,

some I have read before, some are new to me,

although I have read many of the books by Sandra Dallas.

Most have been from the library or were loaners.

These I purchased from Thrift Books

where I have found many good books at a good price.

Shipping is good, too.

The Persian Pickle Club is my favorite of hers, so far.

Her non-fiction book is new to me and very interesting.

It comes as no surprise that she also write non-fiction because

her research has always made her fiction quite authentic.

This was one of our treats this week.

They were quickly made and quickly devoured by Mr. Scrapatch,

who loves chocolate chip cookies.

I call these easy bar cookies "lazy woman chocolate chip cookies."

These are

Chocolate Chip Pecan Blondies from Once Upon a Chef

I added a drizzle of melted chocolate chips for added goodness.

It is almost spring in New England.

70 degrees one one day and a foot of snow in the forecast.

We are closing the windows, battening down the hatches

 and getting the shovels ready.

A stacks of cats!

The kitties say it is time for mommy to make sure we have plenty of cat food

... and it is time to feed them dinner.

The Kitties and I say,

"May you and yours stay safe and well

and may you have a Happy Thursday!"

Squares Sampler Afghan ~ 8 Blocks Done ~ 12 to Go!

This morning after my cup of coffee, I added the single crochet border to my second block for the

Squares Sampler SAL ~ Pattern 4 ~ Vertical Ribs

@ The Inspired Wren

I had a rare late cup of coffee last night and sat up to finish the center of this block.  Then I went to bed feeling accomplished.

After I figured out how to make this pattern stitch work for me ,

I made both blocks in three days.

For my blocks I chained 38 and made 36 HDC stitches in the first row.

I started my pattern stitch with 2 SC and then began the pattern stitch of [1 FPDC and 3 SC] to make 8 vertical ribs and ended with 2 SC.  I turned with 1 Chain Stich and repeated the row for the rest of the center of the square.

I really like the look of this pattern stitch.

My 8th block is pinned and sprayed with water and drying on my blocking board.

On to the next pattern stitch in the

Afghan Sampler Crochet SAL

The 5th Pattern Stitch looks, like one I have done long ago

and should be a much easier stitch for me.

This is the Afghan Sampler Layout with three colors or yarn.

I actually really like this simple layout.

However I decided on using four colors, two pinks and two grays

so my afghan will look different.

I have been thinking of my setting and layout as I crochet and have an image in my mind that adds "sashing" between the blocks. It musty be the quilter in me that likes to play with my blocks.  I hope I can figure out how to do this with yarn.

I do love the creative element of stitching.

I may play with four of my blocks soon to see how this idea might work up.

Or maybe I will just make all 20 blocks and put them on my quilt design wall.

I have never done that with crochet blocks before.

It sounds like fun!

Mr. Scrapatch has a long weekend starting tonight and we have a home improvement project in our plans, so I hope I have time to stitch.

What are your plans?

May you have  happy weekend!

Sampler Square Crochet Block 7 ~ Reset

After a week of off and on frustration,

I am resetting my effort to make the seventh block for my

Squares Sampler Crochet Afghan ~Stared Here

I showed the pink version that I started for this pattern last week

Here.

The pink is now a ball of yarn again.

The pattern may be found in the link below:

Squares Sampler SAL ~ Pattern 4 ~ Vertical Ribs

@ The Inspired Wren

There is a video tutorial for this block and I have watched it more than once

and it did not really help me.

This time I followed the part to make the vertical rib pattern stitch,

which instructs to place Front Post Double Crochet stitches

to create texture in the form of vertical ribs

on a block made stitched in singe crochet.

The pattern stitch calls for a FPDC followed by thee single crochet stitches.

This works for me.

What did not work for me was the part about starting and ending the rows.

The pattern also  created nine vertical ribs on one side

and eight vertical ribs on the reverse side.

My block now has eight vertical ribs on each side.

I also start and end my rows with two single crochet stitches.

This is working for me so I will continue to make the gray block.

After I square and block, if it is 12" like my other blocks,

I will remake the pink version of this pattern stitch in the same manner.

Hope this works.

May you have a happy day of stitching and sewing!
