#IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 31 ~ Favorite Post

My favorite post of all time is my

Easy Tumbling Blocks ~ No "Y" Seams ~ Part 1

It has 54.1K pageviews!

This post series is from 2012.

I wrote this tutorial to help and online quilting friend

who wanted to know how to sew this traditional pattern without "y" seams

to make a quilt for one of her grand children.

I used basic rulers and my cutting mat

to show her that no special tools are necessary.

~

This method allows the blocks to be sewn together in strips

by cutting one of the diamonds into triangles.

Part 1 ~ Cutting Instructions

Part 2 ~ Sewing the Strips

Part 3 ~ Adding the Borders

The finished quilt was featured that year in my

Quilty Christmas Open House, 2012

In 2014, I thought about making a

Country Girl ~ Easy Tumbling Blocks

baby quilt in this pattern for my grand-darling

in some pretty Country Girl fabrics.

I ended up making here a Minnie Mouse Rag Quilt as

Mickey and Minnie are (still) her favorites.

This year she needs a new bed quilt and I am thinking again about making

a twin size Tumbling Blocks Quilt.

Hmmm ... time will tell.

~

This is my final post for the

#IGQuiltFest2021

It has been a fun month sharing with the other quilters participating on Instagram.

Sew Much Inspiration!

# IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Must Make ~ UFOs

For my "Must Make Quilts" I have chosen the UFOs from

My Quazy Queens Post in March, 2019

Rather than post some new huge goal, I decided to revist some of my old ones.

My "Must Make" Projects are:

Patchwork of the Crosses EPP Blocks

My Ventana and Trinket SAL Quilts

365 Blocks in 365 Days ~ "Good Karma"

My Postage Stamp Scrap Quilt

I am also adding my

My Simple Stitches Embroidery Project

on which, I think, the stitching is near or complete and just needs to be taken out of the project bag and finished into a wall hanging or pillow.

Well, that is it ...

and it may take me another two years,

but I want to make these all finishes.

Wish me luck!

#IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 21 ~ Favorite Block

This is my favorite block

which I have turned into a blog button.

I made this pillow in 2019 for this

My Favorite Block Blog Hop Post

This used to be a free BOM block pattern from AZPatch

but, sadly, this site has gone "poof" forever.

I made the block in my blog button in 2008 as a center medallion for a

Round Robin quilt.

Here is what it looked like after my friends added their lovely borders.

This quilt top in not quilted.

At that time, I was quilting all my quilts on my small Brother sewing machine and I was not sure how to quilt around the pretty prairie points in the outer border.

I have learned so much more about quilting then.

I really need to dig this treasure out of my closet and finish it this year.

Since the pattern is no longer available on the free site,

I will also write up and post a tutorial with cutting instructions,

if I do not find the block on any other site.

I am thinking to make a new blue, yellow and green bed quilt with this block.

The quilt will probably not happen until early summer

as I have lots of projects in the queue,

but I may play with the block soon.

~

Today it is sunny and getting warm and spring-like.

I am enjoying the day and working on my blog hop project.

Looks like I may have a finished project.

Wish me luck.

Have a happy and blessed Sunday!

My Stitch Sew & Show Linky Party ~ Week 10

Welcome to Stitch Sew & Show ~ Week 10

I am late posting today, because I had to visit my eye doctor.

I have been having significant vision issues recently that has been affecting my sewing ability and computer time.

It is looking more and more like another eye surgery may be in my future.

I have not made the decision yet to go forward with this

as it is not a quick laser surgery.

This would require a transplant and hospital care.

There is a lot to consider.

I did finish the combined Borders 4 & 5 for my SAHRR 2021.

Week 3 was completed Here.

Week 4 called for a "Checkerboard" and  Week 5 called for "Wonky Stars."

I combined the two to make this 6.5" Streaming Star Block.

I really like this block and you will be seeing it again ... hopefully soon!

Yesterday I did sew up this new spring mask for me to wear to my appointment.

I made this following my own tutorial:

Making a Custom Mask with Neck Straps

For my filter layer I am using a square of this ...

Mountain Mist Polypropylene Filter Fabric

I really think the helps to keep the fabric from collapsing against my face.

It does not make the mask too hot. Nor does it increase breathing difficulty.

My hubby has dose one of the vaccine and has his appointment for the second dose.

I am trying to schedule my own appointment. We hope to be fully vaccinated soon,

but we will be wearing masks everyday for the foreseeable future.

Today's prompt for the #IGQuiltFest2021 is "Quilts of Significance."

I am sharing my Dream Big Quilt ~ Finished Here

This quilt has a faced binding.  This post includes my

How To Face a Quilt Binding Tutorial

What have you been sewing and stitching?

Mt Favorite Quilt book ~ #IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 16

My Favorite Quilt Book

#IGQuiltFest2021

When I was teaching myself quilting, I took many books out of the library,

read magazines and then discovered the wonderful world of quilters on the internet.

There was one book that I bought and kept by my sewing machine.

It was this book:
Quilting, The Complete Guide
by Darlene Zimmerman

I love how this book has a hard cover and a spiral binding inside so it lays flat.

It covers everything, from cutting setting triangles, with an easy chart ...

... a how-to on mitered borders ...

... to the basics of machine quilting.

It has diagrams, charts and even photographs for every topic.

I am a very visual learner so this book is the best for me.

This is the best quilting book in my library.

I am enjoying seeing all the wonderful books in today's prompt.

Are you following along?

Best Quilt Tip Ever ~ #IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 15

"There are no mistakes in quilting,

only design opportunities."

~

Best Quilt Tip Ever

#IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 15

I am attributing this quote to the young woman in the green shirt,

on left in back row, Jessica Smith,

because she reminded me of it often

while I was stressing over small sewing misteps.

This photo was taken at a Quilt & Needle Retreat in Texas, 2010.

This was a mystery quilt weekend and Jess was also the designer.

Jess encouraged quilters to find explore their own creativity.

This quilt started at the retreat as a mystery quilt and was completed at home

where I designed my own borders using what was left of the fabric

and the pieces of panel signed by my friends at this retreat.

   ~

This quilt hangs now on the wall in my quilting room.

It reminds me of the quilting friends who have encouraged me

and supported me and taught me to see each missed stitch along the way

in a positive and forward thinking way.

~

May all your misteps be design opportunities in the making.

~

Happy Quilting!

Recent Finish ~ #IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 14

Today's prompt asked for a recent finish .

My most recent finish is my

Show Your Stripes Quilt

It is my new favorite quilt.

It is Maestro's favorite quilt, too.

I still need to write the tutorial for the scalloped binding.

Looking ahead there is a "Binding" day in the IG Fest,

so I have decided to wait for that day.

~

This weekend has been the start of our Spring Cleaning.

and we had a couple of spring like days last week.

Yesterday and today have been very windy.

Today, it is turning much colder again.

Sew I hope to get some sewing done on my many WIPs.

Hope you and yours are having a happy weekend.

Sewing Friends ~ #IGQuiltFest2021 ~ Day 13

My constant Sewing Friends are my quilty kitty helpers.

 I am very much a Stay-At~Home Quilter.

I have never been a member of any local quilting guild or group.

Through Covid-19  my kitties and I have been sewing and quilting as usual.

The above photo was originally posted Here in 2013,

when Katniss was a newbie quilter.

Since then, I have added my long arm machine

and the Little Sister Quilty Kitties, Nutmeg and Maestro.

They are sew very helpful.

Much of what I learned about quilting has been from online friends.

I have been on quilt forums and swap groups

and have made many quilty friends online.

I have attended big quilt shows, such as the Quilt Odyssey,

where I met my friends, Cherie, Debbieann and Vanessa.

A few times over the years I have had the chance

to meet online quilting friends at a quilt shop while traveling.

In this photo I met my online friends, Annette and Denise,

when I visited my daughter in the PNW.

Once, many years ago, I even traveled to a

Quilt Retreat in Texas in 2010.

~~~
Really, though, my quilting companions are my kitties ...
