I Like Thursday Post # 24 ~ Blueberry Picking and Quilty Kitty Fun

Maestro, say hello to my I like Thursday friends.

Captioned thus:
Top left picture:  "Momma, you know I do not know what you are talking about."
Top Right:  "Momma, you know I don't like it when you flash that thing in my face."
Bottom Left:  "Just peeking to see when you stop with the photo stuff."
Bottom Right:  " I love you, Momma.  I will just wait.  This too will pass."

It can challenging to photograph a black cat that really does not like the camera.

Katniss and Nutmeg are always more photo accommodating:

Photo Left:
Quilty Kitty Stand-off
Nutmeg finds that Katniss has already claimed the basket in the quilting room window.

Middle Photo:
Nutmeg looks at me to say. "Momma, Katniss is not sharing the basket again!"
Katniss is saying, "Oh look, Nutmeg! There out the window!  Did you see that?"

Photo Right:
Nutmeg:  "What? Where?  I don't see it!"
Katniss (smugly) : "Fooled again. Nutmeg is so easy to distract. Heh-Heh-Heh"

In my quilty happenings, my quilty kitties and I have kept up
with the 100 Blocks in 100 Days effort.

Also, we only have 28 more blocks to sew for the queen size batik quilt for my hubby.
I hope to have my blocks done by the weekend so we can go to a local quilt shop and my hubby can pick out the batik border fabric.  I have the backing ready.
Hope to be quilting this one my early next week!

The weather has been lovely here in New England,
cooler and mostly sunny with a few passing storms.

It has been so nice we ventured to our favorite pick your own orchard ...

The blueberry picking was the high bush variety

Lots of berries.
Plenty to ripen so we will probably go back again soon.

I made blueberry muffins ... yum!

Here is my recipe:

Blueberry Muffin Recipe

  • 2 1/2 cup unbleached flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • eggs -- slightly beaten
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cup blueberries
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F ... a hot oven helps to get a good rise as soon as the pan goes into the oven

Prepare muffin pan as desired.  I use a stoneware muffin pan and do not use paper liners.  My pan is well seasoned so I do not need to grease it.  My pan is not glazed and I do not wash with soap, only hot water.

I pre-mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl.

I mix eggs with a fork until well mixed and frothy and add to milk and then add vanilla.  I add cooled melted butter just before adding to the dry ingredients.  I mix only until just combined.  Then I fold in cleaned and dried blueberries lightly.   A few streaks of flour is okay.  Do not overmix to get a nice tender muffin. Scoop into muffin pans. I like to sprinkle a little regular sugar on the top of the muffins.

Bake 25 minutes or until  done and lightly browned.  Cool 5 minutes and enjoy!

Makes 12 large muffins.

PLUS:  My blueberries were large and juicy and I ended up with extra batter so I greased and floured and small loaf pan and put this in at the same time as the muffins. They baked perfectly in the same time, about 28 minutes.

These muffins disappear fast in my home.

Our blueberry goodies are almost gone so time to make more.
Think I will make a blueberry bread pudding next.

We also have some very yummy peaches.
They are disappearing so fast they are not going to make it into any baked goods.

Since today is Thursday,
I will be visiting and reading about the life and times of the

blueberry bread pudding??!! YUM. The photo of the different colors of blueberry is awesome. I enjoyed the cattitude dialogues. Having a black dog, it is harder to get their faces, gotta have light on the faces. Love the cat names! (I admit to playing "look over there" to distract Milo too) Pretty batik quilt!
